A large, well-established Primary School in Ashington, Northumberland, are looking for a full-time, long-term Graduate to become a Year 6 Maths Teaching Assistant to support their SATs pupils on a small-group basis. This 'Outstanding' Graded Primary School educates over 700 pupils aged 2-11 each year. They have a long-standing reputation of producing excellent SATs grades, and are keen to deploy a Graduate Year 6 Maths TA to help boost progress in Maths among their Year 6 pupils.
You will provide whole-class support for Classroom Teachers in the mornings, then work with small groups of 4-5 Year 6 pupils in the afternoons to boost their understanding of SATs-level Maths. Primarily, you will work with under-performing pupils aged 10-11 who will benefit from your additional input in Maths to ensure they can reach their potential.
Basic level understanding of the Year 6 Maths curriulum and relevant pedagogy of KS2 Maths is key to being successful in this role. Being able to adapt to a range of ability levels and break down topics to effectively communicate key concepts to under-performing children will also be crucial.
This nurturing school frequently offer TeachFirst opportunities for Graduates to undertake Initial Teacher Training (ITT) at the Primary School. As such, you will be well-supported and under the guidance of the Head of Maths and Assistant Head, receiving regular weekly meetings to discuss support for you to provide the best tutoring for the pupils, while enhancing your own skillset.
With car parking facilities onsite, this Primary School is easily commutable by car from Central Newcastle and areas of Durham, Sunderland and Northumberland. The school's demographic is mixed, and awareness of complex socioeconomic situations and associated needs is key.
