About Us
Niijkiwendidaa Anishnaabekwewag Services Circle (NASC) is a registered charitable organization dedicated to the development and delivery of healing services for Anishnaabekwewag (Indigenous women) and their families who have experienced violence or are at risk of experiencing violence. Therapeutic healing work is conducted using Anishnaabe practices, blended with community-centred and client-centred methods of healing.
The position is located at the main office in Peterborough. In addition to the City of Peterborough, NASC supports the County of Peterborough, Haliburton, the City of Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County, and the Durham Region; the First Nations of Curve Lake, Hiawatha, Alderville and Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

Position Description
The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization, consistent with the strategic directions outlined by the Council of Directors. The ED must establish themselves and NASC as a visible, supportive, and active presence in the community. The ED works closely with, and reports to, the Council of Directors.
An employment offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory CPIC and VSC and a clean driver’s abstract.
Key Responsibilities
* Leadership
To lead the NASC team with purpose and passion, supporting and fostering positive relationships amongst the team, the Council of Directors, the community, and other partners.
* To build and nurture strong and impactful relationships with community partners that advance our mandate and create lasting community change.
* To lead the NASC team by example; coaching and mentoring the team in a manner that exemplifies our core values and traditional ways.
* Human Resources/Team Management
Create and foster a values-based team, ensuring a supportive and safe working climate for all team members, including volunteers, that is in accordance with law, regulations, and policies.
* Oversee a performance management system that assigns and coordinates work, ensures the successful achievement of planned results, and monitors team performance which includes annual performance reviews for all team members.
* Manage the human resource needs of the organization, including recruitment, staff professional development and team building.
* Accountability/Board of Directors
Regular, proactive communication with the Council of Directors, including attending Council meetings.
* Provide support to the Council of Directors including preparation of meeting materials, an Executive Director’s report, financial reports and budgets, and other communications as required.
* Support the Board of Directors to achieve good governance, in compliance with NASC bylaws and relevant legislation.
* Work collectively with the Council of Directors to provide knowledge and expertise in the development of organizational capacity, strategic directions, and policies.
* Support the Council in the achievement of their strategic plan and directions.
* Assist the Council in defining the direction of NASC as it relates to the needs of Indigenous women and their families.
* Financial Management
Directly manage all financial matters and activities related to the annual and day-to-day operations in accordance with finance policies and procedures.
* Maintain a working relationship with the Auditor and, in collaboration with the Council, ensure that NASC is engaged in the audit process and the audit is completed in a manner required by funders.
* Meet all contractual funding requirements and ensure timely reporting occurs, including budgets, submissions, proposals, data collection, annual reports (CRA), etc.
* Administer program funds according to the approved budgets and monitor cash flow, submitting budget changes as required.
* Partner with the Council of Directors to secure sufficient funding for the operation of NASC through proper research and preparation of funding plans and proposals.
* Programs and Service Management
Ensure that NASC is achieving all contractual obligations, including the achievement of program and service objectives, and that required reporting is submitted according to agreement requirements.
* Supervise and participate in the development, execution, and assessment of NASC’s services, ensuring they reflect the mission/vision set by the Council of Directors.
* Relationships
Build, develop, and sustain positive business relationships/strategic partnerships that are mutually beneficial, reciprocal and grounded in trust and respect.
* Create opportunities for and facilitate community outreach and promotion of the organization.
Position Requirements
* Formal Education and Certification
Post-secondary degree in business administration, or related field.
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior management role.
* Experience working within a nonprofit sector, preferably within an Indigenous organization.
* Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
* Knowledge and Experience
Must be an active and engaged member of the Indigenous community, having an in-depth understanding of Indigenous culture and Indigenous ways of being.
* Must have in-depth knowledge of Indigenous community needs, challenges, solutions, trends, and gaps.
* Experience and understanding of woman abuse, children who witness violence and sexual assault survivors.
* Multiple years experience with organization and senior level management, preferably with a community-based, Indigenous non-profit.
* Experience in initiating, strategically planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services.
* Strong understanding of finance management, specifically operation and program budgets, ability to forecast, and to develop financial budgets for funding applications.
* Ability to speak an Indigenous language is considered an asset.
