About the Role As a key member of the colleges dedicated catering team, youll be responsible for supporting the smooth, efficient, and cost-effective running of the kitchen. Youll assist with the daily preparation and presentation of food under the guidance of the Executive Head Chef and Sous Chefensuring the college continues to uphold its outstanding culinary standards. Key Responsibilities Support daily kitchen operations and prepare dishes to a high standard, ensuring correct accompaniments and allergen info are always available. Stay informed of daily menus and special events; check kitchen communications and notices regularly. Follow hygiene regulations and food safety legislation (Food Safety Act 1990, HACCP, etc.); uphold the colleges Food Safety Management System and Allergen Policy. Maintain a high level of personal hygiene and always wear the appropriate uniform, which is provided by the college. Record temperatures of high-risk foods, monitor hygiene standards, and complete relevant documentation (e.g. Daily Hygiene Checklists and allergen logs). Use kitchen equipment correctly and report any faults to senior chefs immediately. Clean and set up your section at the beginning and end of each shift, ensuring compliance with kitchen cleaning schedules. Organise and maintain cleanliness of store rooms (dry, chilled, frozen), label and store food safely in accordance with the allergen policy. Hand over clearly to the next team, ensuring a smooth transition between shifts. Assist with food transfers to other areas of the college and follow correct procedures for storing returned or unused food. Minimise waste and ensure all opened items are sealed, dated, and labelled correctly. Provide occasional support to the food service team, including food displays and live service during formal events or cafeteria service. Collaborate with the wider hospitality team and contribute to the overall success of college catering operations.
