Main duties of the job

The post holder is required to carry out all relevant forms of care and is responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of patients' care needs on the Surgical Assessment Unit.
The post holder will be required to liaise with nursing and medical colleagues and other members of the Multidisciplinary Health Care teams to ensure the delivery of effective patient care.
The post holder will be expected to regularly take charge of the ward in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility approximately 50% - 100% of shifts depending on day/night rota.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications
* NMC Registered Nurse
* Diploma in Nursing, willingness to undertake
* Clinical / professional subject
* Advanced Life Support or willingness to undertake
* Post-basic education in relevant speciality.
Experience
* Post registration Experience within an appropriate clinical area
* Experience of undertaking audit work and standard setting.
* Proven experience at Band 5 in a Surgical Ward.
Skills
* Evidence of good organisational skills.
* Evidence of people management and leadership skills alongside the ability to care with warmth and understanding.
* Ability to negotiate and communicate with patients and all members of the Multidisciplinary Team.
* Advanced clinical skills.
* Ability to adapt to and propose changes within working situations.
Knowledge
* Evidence of knowledge and application of consent, data protection, patient confidentiality and risk management with Health and Safety issues.
* Knowledge of local policies/procedures and guidelines.
* Knowledge of Appraisal process.
* Knowledge of some management theories.
