The Emergency Nurse Practitioner/Emergency Clinical Practitioner will work autonomously within the Emergency Department; ensuring that high standards of clinical care are met through the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of minor injury and illness.
The post holder will have evidence of having successfully completed or be working towards post-registration education in minor injury and illness management at degree or masters level. The post holder will have a portfolio of evidence that clearly demonstrates their competence to independently assess and manage adults and children with a wide range of minor injury and illness presentations.
The post holder will be responsible for providing direct and indirect supervision and mentorship for trainee ENPs/ECPs and junior colleagues.
The role will require the post holder to work flexibly in order to respond to variations in demand within the Emergency Department.
1. The post holder will work autonomously assessing and managing patients presenting with minor injury/illness presentations to the Emergency Department.
2. The post holder will actively support the development of ENPs/ECPs and trainees in training by providing clinical teaching and supervision.
3. The post holder will support the development of all grades of clinical staff who are developing clinical skills in the management of minor illness and injury.
4. The post holder – in conjunction with the Consultant ACP will identify areas where the scope of the service or practice could be expanded.
5. The post holder will be responsible for contributing to clinical audit and service development within the minor service.
6. Collaboratively work with colleagues to develop evidenced-based clinical pathways, protocols and guidelines with a view to continuously improving quality and managing clinical risk more effectively.
The post holder will use history-taking, assessment, examination and diagnostic skills within an agreed scope of practice. The post holder will ensure the safe referral or discharge of patients within a range of minor injury and minor illness presentations.
