About the role:
To provide a comprehensive, discreet, high quality professional and reliable support service to the Chief Executive, Leader of the Council, Cabinet, Committees and Members to effectively manage their meetings in line with the Council’s Constitution and Work Plans.
About you:
• Possess the necessary interpersonal skills to achieve credibility in dealing with Members and Officers of the Council, other outside bodies and the general public.
• Possess a clear understanding for the need for confidentiality at all times
• Possess the ability to abide by and work to deadlines and plan ahead accordingly
• Be organised, methodical and diligent with high personal standards
• Possess the ability to deal with a range of complex, politically sensitive issues with diplomacy, tact and professionalism.
• Ability to use Microsoft Office or similar work-processing, spreadsheet and database packages.
What you will do:
• To provide comprehensive support to ensure the effective operation of the Council’s Cabinet, Committees and Working Groups.
• To oversee the collation of papers and sending out of agendas, taking of accurate minutes during the meetings, liaison with the Chair of the meeting on the final minutes, distribution to Elected Members and communication of action points to all stakeholders and to monitor their implementation.
• To ensure compliance with the relevant legislation in administering meetings.
• To be able to deal with complex and contentious matters raised by the public and Members of the Council.
• To be able to provide advice to Members of the Council on the Members' Code of Conduct, Members' Remuneration, appropriately signposting Members in relation to ward work
• The ability to work independently and on their own initiative, referring more complex and politically sensitive issues to the line manager.
