Who are we?
instinct laboratory uses customer research, behavioural science and creative design to develop strategies for leading global brands. Based in West Bridgford, Nottingham, our teams travel around the world to support our clients to better understand their customers’ behaviour and how to adapt it.
What we offer:
* An outstanding, one of a kind office space – our flagship office, instinct house, is a fantastic place to work
* A culture based on sharing knowledge, learning and development – as we employ teams who wouldn’t normally work together (e.g. creative designers and data analysts / psychologists & development designers), we have a real focus on bringing our teams together
* A friendly and supportive team – despite our exceptional home, we’re a small team and we’re all working towards the same goals
The role:
Due to retirement, we’re looking for an experienced bookkeeper or accountant who will fit into our dynamic business and support us with a varied range of duties, across all aspects of business and finance administration. This is a hands-on role which is broad in its scope. You will report to the directors and be a key part of our management team.
Working with our office manager, you’ll help to keep our business running smoothly. We will rely on you to keep up to date with changes to business legislation and ensure that proper procedures are followed at all times. We’re searching for someone who is flexible, proactive and able to juggle different priorities. We require excellent communication skills, both written and verbal and someone who can work alone and set their own priorities.
This role will include:
* Recording all financial transactions
* Bank reconciliations, cashflow management, currency transactions
* Managing our order book, raising sales invoices and credit control
* Processing purchase orders, invoices and payments
* Processing employee travel expenses
* VAT returns (multi company)
* Liaising with our external accountants for our quarterly management accounts and annual financial accounts as well as company secretarial matters
* Ensuring that all our financial accounting and statutory requirements are fulfilled
* Reporting to directors on the current financial position
* Identifying areas where costs can be saved or efficiencies introduced
* Ensuring suitable insurance policies are in place
* Reviewing company contracts
* Prior payroll processing experience would be useful but is not essential for the role
* Although not a requirement, it would be great to find someone who is able to assist in managing our IT system.
* While prior HR knowledge isn’t required, you’ll provide support in this area to ensure that we comply with all our statutory duties.
Requirements:
We are looking for a candidate who has experience working in a similar role, with a good knowledge of VAT, business operations and regulatory requirements. Although our Operations Team is small, you’ll work with colleagues throughout the business. You will need to be flexible in dealing with all finance related matters, able to set your own priorities and be willing to jump in to assist in other aspects of business operations if required.
We envisage the role will be approximately 20-25 hours per week. We can be flexible regarding days and hours worked and will discuss with candidates their preferred working model. Our staff are all office based and all hours are to be worked at our business premises.
We use Sage as our accounts software but are also interested in talking to candidates with experience of other software packages.
