An opportunity has arisen for two part-time medical secretaries within Obstetrics & Gynaecology based at Bishop Auckland Hospital. Operating in a team, the post holder will provide an efficient and effective secretarial and administrative service within Obstetrics & Gynaecology. It is essential that you have experience of audio typing and Microsoft packages. A flexible, pro-active team player is required. You will also have excellent organisational and communication skills and be able to work under pressure and to deadlines.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Provide clerical support to Consultants, Specialist Nurses, admin teams, Admin Manager, and Service Manager.
2. Liaise with other departments.
3. Deal with queries from patients, visitors, and staff.
Job Responsibilities
This role will liaise with the Admin Manager, Service Manager, Medical Secretaries, and a wide range of medical, nursing, and allied health professionals and admin staff within the Trust and outside agencies, and patients and relatives over the telephone externally, acting as a focal point of contact for all general enquiries concerning the work of the clinical team.
Liaise with GPs, patients, medical, nursing, and support services within the Trust in a courteous and professional manner.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good Standard of Education - Minimum of 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at C Grade or above including English Language. NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or equivalent knowledge/experience (or working towards).
Special Skills and Knowledge
* Committed to quality customer care/delivering excellent customer service. Ability to communicate accurately verbally and in writing with a wide range of people. Effective interpersonal skills.
* Able to work with minimal supervision following set procedures. Ability to prioritise workload.
* Able to work to deadlines.
* Flexible approach to work and adaptable to change. Ability to work as a member of a team.
* Knowledge of computer packages: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
* Knowledge of Data Protection and Caldicott Principles and understanding the requirement to maintain confidentiality. Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
* Knowledge of NHS Practices/Procedures.

Experience
* Experience of an admin role providing general provision of admin duties in a challenging and constantly changing environment.
* Experience of working within the Gynaecology Department.
* Experience of working within an NHS environment.
* Experience of setting up and maintaining office filing systems.
