About the Role
Applicants are invited to apply for a 12-month full-time post-doctoral research assistant position to join Dr Manikandan Subramanian’s team investigating the mechanisms of cargo handling by macrophages during clearance of apoptotic cells. The position is at the Centre for Biochemical Pharmacology, which brings together leading clinical and non-clinical scientists researching inflammation, rheumatic, and cardiovascular diseases. The Centre is based within the Charterhouse Square Campus in the City of London and within the William Harvey Research Institute at Barts and The London School of Medicine, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).
The appointed person will undertake research under the supervision of Dr Subramanian and provide research and administrative support to achieve the objectives of the research programme. The project will focus on investigating the metabolic fate of apoptotic cell cargo following ingestion by macrophages.
About You
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in biological or related sciences with a strong background in cell biology and cell signalling. The candidate should be able to work independently and in a team, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrate effective multi-tasking and record-keeping. Proficiency in computer software related to laboratory research, data presentation, and statistical analysis is required, along with the ability to organize a varied workload. Experience with confocal microscopy and flow cytometry, including analysis software like FlowJo and ImageJ, is essential.
