Salary: £33,024 – £35,745 per annum (pending pay award)
Hours: 37 hours
Contract: Fixed Term – 6 months (start date of 1st June 2025)
Location: Sheffield (This is a hybrid role with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office)

Key Responsibilities
As Democratic Services Officer, you’ll provide comprehensive, efficient support and advisory service in relation to the MCA’s democratic services function. You will facilitate and co-ordinate the smooth operation of meetings by preparing and distributing agendas, reports, and minutes, and in delivering and live broadcasting of Board and Committee meetings.
Other responsibilities include:
1. Provide general advice and support to MCA Officers and elected and Private Sector Members in relation to the democratic and governance issues.
2. Maintain a secure system for the management and retention of documents ensuring compliance at all times.
3. Carry out research and provide information and briefing notes for the Democratic Services Manager and Monitoring Officer.
4. Assist the Democratic Services Manager and Monitoring Officer in developing and implementing operational plans and priorities for the Democratic Services team in accordance with the corporate priorities and objectives.
5. Provide advice and guidance to Officers and Members on the MCA Constitution and relevant legislation as it relates to Democratic Services.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
You will have previous experience within a similar role including meeting administration, such as minute taking and report writing. You’ll be highly organised with exceptional communication skills.

Education: A Level standard or equivalent, with proficiency in English and Maths to GCSE level.
Knowledge: Understanding of public sector environments, democratic processes, and statutory regulations.
IT Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other office-based software applications.
Continuous Development: Evidence of ongoing training and personal growth.
Previous Experience: Work in Democratic Services, and collaboration with elected members.
Skills: relationship-building, time management, tact, diplomacy, and teamwork.
