About us The city council's Environmental Policy team covers a wide range of environmental policy and programme areas. These are issues that are council priorities, so it is activity that involves political engagement. We coordinate Salford's response to the Climate and Biodiversity Emergencies, connect the city council to activity that protects and enhances Salford's environment and green and blue spaces, and support flood risk management. We work closely with other council teams, particularly Planning, Regeneration, and Environment.
About the Role The Environmental Policy Team Leader plays a key strategic role in shaping and driving Salford City Council’s environmental agenda. Leading a dedicated team within the Spatial Planning and Environment Service, this role is responsible for developing and implementing policies and projects on climate change, biodiversity, and environmental resilience. The postholder will work collaboratively across the council and external partners, influencing regional and national policies to align with the city’s environmental ambitions. With a strong focus on innovation and impact, the role ensures that Salford is at the forefront of sustainable urban development, delivering tangible improvements for the city’s communities.
About you We're looking for someone with a track record in delivery of environmental projects. You should have an understanding of the key issues councils are seeking to manage through environmental policy and programmes, including climate change, biodiversity, flood risk and how regional environmental networks operate. A good networker, who can build strong relationships across the GM environment sector and influence the activity of key partners. You should have a proven ability to work with politicians and within political structures, and should embody the values and behaviours of Salford City Council.
