CT Deputy Lead Radiographer
Department: Imaging
Band 7, 1 Full Time Permanent post and 1 Fixed Term Contract until September 2025, £46,148 to £52,809 per annum (pro rata if fixed term)
Hours: per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
We are looking for Radiographers who are specialists in CT with substantial post-graduation CT experience, who are keen to progress their careers in our department by being committed to excellent patient care and developing CT service. The Deputy CT Lead Radiographer role will be dedicated to the CT department, although there will be a commitment to the Out-of-hours service. You will be a proactive team member who is willing to take on responsibility for the CT service when the CT Lead Radiographer is unavailable.
It is an exciting time to join the team at MKUH Imaging Department as a new scanning centre is being built, scheduled to open in 2026, and a new Community Diagnostic Centre opening around Milton Keynes.
Our Imaging Department has a wide range of imaging modalities and Trust wide PACS. We invest in high quality patient care of which we can be proud & the local community has confidence.

Main duties of the job
1. Perform wide range of CT procedures according to Trust, Departmental & statutory regulations.
2. Provide a high standard of patient care within the specialised area of CT ensuring a sensitive and courteous approach to all patients.
3. To communicate effectively to ensure the smooth running of the CT service.
4. To supervise, mentor and coach new team members, junior staff and students working within the CT department.
5. To deputise and line manage staff in the absence of the CT Modality Lead.
6. To ensure a high-quality, safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led CT service is maintained with patient waiting times kept to a minimum.
7. To acquire knowledge of developments in CT imaging techniques and to improve and maintain professional expertise via continuous professional development.
8. To ensure correct maintenance and operation of equipment utilised within the working environment.
9. To co-operate with efficient CT service delivery across the trust (, including acute hospital site, mobile facilities & community diagnostic centres).
10. Fulfil your contractual working hours commitment by participating in a range of 24/7 rostered shift patterns.
Apprentice & student Radiographers rotate through the department from the Universities of Hertfordshire and Exeter. The department supports role extension & has practicing radiographers reporting on axial & appendicular skeleton and Chest & Abdominal Reporting. As well as CT, the department also interventional Suite, PACS, MRI & Cardiology.

Job responsibilities
Clinical:
19. To independently undertake a wide range of CT procedures, ensuring high professional standards of technical competence and patient care are maintained at all times.
20. Able to work in an advanced practitioner capacity, with a high degree of autonomy to provide clinical support and advice to other radiographic practitioners.
21. In complex and challenging clinical situations, uses a range of skills and strategies to lead new practice and service developments
Leadership and Management:
22. To encourage the highest professional and technical standards in all staff using personal example and constructive supervision.
23. To be responsible for leading and co-ordinating the team in an allocated area in the absence of the Superintendent Radiographer. This will involve being able to cope with frequent interruptions from both colleagues and other medical and non-medical staff of the Trust.
24. To motivate staff and promote a high level of morale in the department.
Communication:
25. To offer advice and guidance topatients, carers and other health professionals on radiology procedures, specialised procedures and ionising and non-ionising radiation issues taking due consideration of the patients condition.
26. Assess specific communication needs of individual patients. To anticipate where communication difficulties might make completion of relevant documents, CT safety questionnaire including IV allergy information, impossible and implement alternative methods to ensure patient safety is maintained at all times.
27. To inform and promote Radiology guidelines and departmental policies to other healthcare professional.
Teaching, Training and Research:
28. To participate in the induction and training of new staff, assistant practitioners, and student radiographers.
29. To supervise, assist and support radiographers and medical staff training in specialist areas.
30. To undertake formalised assessments of staff training in the specialised area ensuring staff competency.
Professional role responsibilities:
31. Practicesin accordance with the professional, ethical, and legal codes of the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), the Society of Radiographers Professional Code of Conduct and Trust and NHS protocols and guidelines.
General Responsibilities :

33. Is fully conversant with departmental policies and supports the department in ensuring that performance complies with departmental and professional standards.

34. BSc (Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
35. Post graduate qualification in imaging (, CT)
