Job Title: Principal Manufacturing Engineer
Salary: £47,000
Location: Bolton
Dynamic (hybrid) working: 4 days per week on-site due to workload classification
Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship. Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.
The opportunity:
Working as a Principal Manufacturing Engineer your duties will include:
1. Working with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, potentially on multiple projects / multiple manufacturing tasks whilst also being responsible for team leadership.
2. Manage the industrial validation process through the use of FMEA's, process proving activities etc., ensuring IV dashboards are up to date and current.
3. Ensure the team management of configuration control by the embodiment of design modifications into the Manufacturing documentation and industrial validation.
4. Support Senior Manufacturing Engineers in their day-to-day technical role.
5. Manage team work load, priorities, and key problems ensuring delivery on time.
6. Provide team leadership: managing team holidays and dynamic working, sickness/absence, appraisals, courageous conversations and representing the team in several business forums.
7. Support the manufacturing area in its growth and rate increase.
8. Promote continuous improvement through the team/organisation and lead CI activities.
9. Being part of the appraisal process to support team members contribution ratings.
10. Define manufacturing architecture to operate lean principles, whilst also compiling business cases for process improvements/factory of the future concepts.
11. Assume the responsibilities for safe operating implementation for changed processes, including liaising with COSHH assessors, SHE and Human factors.
12. Interface with the design authority during the product prototype/development phase, to ensure optimised Design for Manufacture (DfM), or in the production phase for change implementation.
13. Lead the team in ensuring updates of Manufacturing Instructions and maintenance of production BOMs and on time and in line with master production schedule (MPS).
What we're looking for from you:
1. Formal technical Engineering/Craft Apprenticeship to NVQ Level 3 AND Formal further education certificate to HNC or equivalent in a relevant subject OR BEng in relevant Engineering Degree.
2. Be highly motivated and enthusiastic, to create/maintain a high performing team.
3. Be a recognised point of contact for manufacturing enquiries through the deployed team.
4. Must demonstrate a proactive approach to problem solving and commitment to work to meet our delivery milestones.
5. Have the ability to interpret Design Drawings with a view to producing Manufacturing Build Instructions.
6. Must be confident in people leadership and holding effective team/individual discussions.
7. Awareness of digital communication platforms to work and communicate effectively within the workplace.
