Principal Clinical Psychologist/Psychological Therapist
The post advertised is for a Principal Psychological Therapist or Clinical Psychologist to provide clinical leadership, direct and indirect clinical interventions in the Sunderland West Community Treatment Team. The service offers the systematic provision of multidisciplinary, and evidence-based bio-psychosocial interventions to adults with complex mental health presentations.
The post holder will be the key clinical decision maker on acceptance to the service. They will provide consultation, assessment and psychological therapy to complex cases. A key element of this role is to oversee the provision of NICE recommended psychological interventions within the team and provide clinical supervision and scaffolding to members of the MDT.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder is responsible for leading a qualified specialist psychologically-informed service to clients in the Sunderland West Community Treatment Team, providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy, in addition to clinical supervision and advice to colleagues, on psychological aspects of assessment, formulation, care and treatment.
The post-holder will take a lead role for specialist psychological assessment and treatments for complex presentations within the team and will contribute in-depth specialist knowledge and skills drawing upon appropriate evidence-based interventions.
The post-holder is responsible for providing leadership and mentorship within the team and across the locality, offering specialist advice and consultation regarding aspects of best practice.
Person specification
Experience
* Substantial post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings
* Substantial experience of providing clinical supervision
* Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
Knowledge and Skills
* Substantial post qualification experience of specialist psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, and inpatient settings.
* Demonstrate further specialist training and experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a clinical psychologist over a minimum of 18 months or an alternative agreed by the Psychological Services Professional Lead.
Qualifications
* HCPC registered practitioner psychologist or equivalent e.g. BABCP registered CBT practitioner.
* Qualification in clinical psychology or a therapy qualification from an accredited course that leads to the title psychological therapist
* Have completed an additional training in a second therapeutic modality
