To lead the continuing development of excellent, evidence based learning with the Endoscopy Unit. To work clinically with all staff groups in a supportive or facilitating role in response to identified learning needs To work with the Endoscopy nursing staff on audit to ensure the development of a multi-professional programme of clinical audit Ensure good communication/collaboration with the Unit with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients and relatives. This includes documenting relevant and accurate information within the Patient Record. Ensure the team is aware of new policies and procedures and how to access the latest versions. Disseminate any changes in policies and procedure in a timely manner. Facilitate the implementation of key standards in the Endoscopy Unit and compliance with JAG accreditation Ensure professional standards are maintained in accordance with the NMC code of professional conduct. Work with the Practice Development team in the development of relevant clinical guidance, policies and protocols. Keep relevant records and submit reports in a professionally acceptable manner Promote a positive relationship with all stakeholders. Identify and act appropriately regarding incidents of poor practice Role model standards of care and maintain standards of conduct and behaviours consistent with trust and NMC guidelines. Ensure visibility within clinical areas externally and internally. Contribute to formulating guidelines and pathways in the Endoscopy unit. Contribute to change processes through leadership, research, education, training and clinical practice. Assist in the dissemination of national information, policies, guidelines and practice changes that may impact upon the patient care pathway Assist in the monitoring of standards and benchmarking. Maintain professional registration and practice through Continuing Professional Development. Maintain a professional portfolio of supporting evidence in line with Agenda for Change knowledge and skills framework requirements. Demonstrate the ability to co-ordinate, monitor and assess own workload Recognise, understand and accept the requirement to act as an advocate for patients, carers, staff, service, organisation and network. Ensure evidence based practice and value for money in the use of all resources. Orientate staff to the departments, developing an orientation plan giving exposure to all areas. Education, research, training and development Maintain own statutory and mandatory training requirements Participate in the support of The Training Academy learning environment Promote the use of evidence based practice and research mindedness in other staff Collaboratively identify areas for research. Promote an environment which supports research activity. Participate in meetings and project work as identified and delegated by the PDT. Contribute to audits of service/role to meet the needs of the Endoscopy Unit Demonstrate knowledge of current research and advise others on the implementation of research projects in response to specific needs Deputies and act up for the matron in their absence. Coordinate the unit in the event of a major incident. Attend national/international conference in order to raise the profile of the services, share knowledge and learn from best practice in other services. Participate in recruiting and retaining a work force qualified to meet the needs of endoscopy patients. This may include nursing staff, support workers, administrative staff and housekeeping staff. To co-ordinate staff induction, retention initiatives and preceptors and mentor development. Attend Unit and Trust meetings where specialist knowledge is of benefit to colleagues and the hospital Maintain a safe and acceptable environment for patients, visitors, students and staff, reporting and taking appropriate action on any hazards, incidents, fault equipment or inadequate standard of cleaning. Co-ordinate the reporting of all such incidents for the area in liaison with the Clinical Nurse Lead. Support and facilitate the management of change. Ensure that the information needs of the unit are maintained and developed by developing IT skills in self and others. Collect data and provide essential information in a timely and accurate manner as requested by the trust management teams. This could include dependency studies manpower and a variety of audits. Work with policies and procedures ratified within the Trust and Unit. Become familiar with new policies and procedures and know how to access them as required. Develop and maintain effective communication systems both within and outside the trust and create an environment that encourages open communication and trust Be aware of cost implications associated with the service and ensure effective use of resources. Attend and contribute to clinical team meetings. To act as a role model of expert clinical practice within the Endoscopy Unit and to continue to develop own clinical expertise within the speciality Liaise with the Practice Development Team to assist in the implementation of all national and local nursing policies and initiatives. Represent the trust local and nationally, participating in and speaking at conferences and study days on issues relating to the work of the unit. Facilitate development of team members in their professional and educational role. Collaborate with the Matron regarding practice development/innovation and the dissemination and marketing of Endoscopy Unit both internally and throughout the care network. Participate in and facilitate publication and presentations related to the work of Endoscopy unit. Maintain and develop personal professional profile.
