This role is within a unit where Surrey Police and Sussex Police work in collaboration, whilst remaining two separate legal entities/employers with different terms and conditions.
Both Surrey Police staff and Sussex Police staff are employed in this unit on their own force terms and conditions.
Successful candidates may be appointed on the terms and conditions of employment of either Surrey Police or Sussex Police, depending on organisational requirements. A discussion will be held with the successful candidate to confirm the details of location, salary, allowances and hours.

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.
The Role & Key Responsibilities
An exciting position is now available within the Communications Team.
You will be part of a team at the very heart of police operations, looking after all aspects of police radio, radio networks as well as many other critical functions directly related to policing and the front line. You will specifically support the successful management and auditing of all force Airwave radio assets across Surrey Police and Sussex Police.
You, the Airwave Technician, will identify ways of streamlining Airwave processes while ensuring all Airwave processes are reflected within the asset management system and compliance with all Home Office requirements concerning asset auditing and the handling of cryptographic materials is maintained.
You will be key to ensuring the force’s Airwave Code of Connection (CoCo) remains valid. You will also be responsible for report generation and liaising with force representatives to ensure 100% compliance in auditing 8000 mobile handsets and circa 1000 vehicle sets.
Close interaction with the Airwave team and other departmental contacts within both forces on multiple levels will be required.
Skills & Experience
1. A commitment to work towards internal and external qualifications as required to support the role.
2. Demonstrable experience and knowledge in general administration and technical documentation would be a bonus, e.g. use of MS Office 365.
3. A full driving licence is essential. The role will be a mix of office and mobile field work, there will be occasions when it is necessary to use force vehicles to travel around Surrey & Sussex Police to complete tasks associated with the role. This will require completion of a police vehicle driving test.
4. Has a hunger for knowledge - a love to learn is essential here, changing subjects, a variance in duties, project involvement...all will be key to your development and advancement.
5. Thinks ahead and prepares for the future, planning is key here.
6. The ability to work unsupervised and be able to use own initiative to solve problems, taking reasoned and responsible decisions that consider all the relevant factors and information.

11. An ability to maintain a high degree of integrity and trust when dealing with sensitive and classified information.
12. Practical experience of manual handling techniques for assisting in moving boxes, radios and other general DDaT equipment when required.
