Job Summary
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a Level 3 Maternity Support Worker (MSW) to provide direct delivery of clinical care to all women and babies accessing maternity services and may be based within specialist and integrated teams such as in theatre, fetal medicine units and community hubs. Level 3 MSW may serve as a point of contact/support for women and their families and provide clinical, physical, psychological and emotional care and support; they provide appropriate information and, where necessary, signpost to wider support organisations. The MSW reports to registered practitioners where planned delegated care has been provided.
Main duties of the job
1. To support breast feeding in line with Baby Friendly principles and local policy and guidelines
2. To undertake A/N BP checks at home and feedback to midwife
3. To support the midwife within the antenatal clinics by undertaking the following roles:
4. Measurement of height, weight and BMI
5. Perform baseline observations and urinalysis
6. Assess CO levels
7. Take booking bloods
8. Undertake initial outline explanation of screening tests
9. Discuss health advice around food, exercise, food hygiene, personal hygiene (GAS), chickenpox, rubella, immunisations in pregnancy
10. Complete data entry.
11. To follow up on women who DNA, in line with agreed care pathways and guidelines and record these in the agreed manner
12. Take and follow up on blood and microscopy tests-feed this information back to the Midwife to assess findings
13. To undertake group health promotion teaching as agreed with team leader/ departmental managers
14. Office / Administration skills necessary to support the service.
