Job summary WE ARE SEEKING AN ENTHUSIASTIC, ORGANISED AND MOTIVATED GP ASSISTANT TO FURTHER ENHANCE OUR PRIMARY CARE TEAM IN MARKET DRAYTON. The post holder will report to the nurse manager and the general practitioners (GPs) and support the GPs to ensure the efficient provision of medical services and clinics by performing several more routine administrative and clinical duties. This will allow the GPs to utilise their own time more effectively towards greater patient focused activities. Utilising the NHS Health Education England GPA Competency Framework, the post holder working within general practice/primary care will provide capabilities within care, administration, clinical, communications and health records management. We have an average list size of over 17,900 patients and offer a wide range of facilities and skills while maintaining the traditional values of family medicine. In 2005 we moved to purpose built premises that offer scope for future expansion of both services and the practice team. In addition to being a training practice for GP trainees, we also provide placements for student Doctors, Physician Associates and Nurses. Trainees are well supported by all members of the practice team. Other community services located within the premises and with whom we have good links include Physiotherapy, Dental, District Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors. We are a partner practice of Our Health Partnership, a GP partnership of 34 practices with 43 surgeries. 176 GP partners and circa 80 salaried GPs in Our Health Partnership serving around 300,000 patients in Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield, Wolverhampton, Solihull and Shropshire. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels. a. Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP(s) regarding actions required b. Signposting some received correspondence to others, e.g., clinical pharmacist, practice nurse c. Extracting all the required information from clinical letters, applying medical codes as required and adding these to patient notes d. Support practice patients by arranging appointments, onward referrals, clinical tests and follow up appointments. e. Preparing patients, prior to seeing the GP(s), by taking a brief history and basic observations. f. Conducting urinalysis, taking blood pressure g. Performing ECGs h. Performing phlebotomy i. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms in addition to some elements of forms for the GP(s) to approve such as insurance forms, mortgage applications, Department for Works and Pensions benefits forms and other as appropriate j. Explaining treatment procedures to patients k. Supporting GP(s) in liaising with external agencies such as helping to arrange patient admission while the GP(s) continue with the consultation. l.
