Inpress and the PBS's reputation have grown steadily over the course of the current chairperson’s tenure, and trade sales have doubled over the last two financial years. A dynamic team of six, led by the managing director with the support of a board of directors, works from our Newcastle office. The Poetry Book Society is the direct to consumer arm, promoting contemporary poetry to members and the wider poetry community. The in-house team have a wealth of experience in both publishing and book retail, and we employ a range of freelance professionals and have key business partnerships to ensure our services to publishers and the industry are of the highest possible standard.
We are looking for a Chair with excellent leadership skills, a strong background in business, preferably within the literary or cultural sector, and the time and energy to be involved in consolidating and developing the ambitious growth and direction of Inpress and The Poetry Book Society. We want someone who can act as a leader within the organisation, and a spokesperson and figurehead for the company within the literary, cultural and business communities.
The Chair will be actively involved in providing strategic support to the managing director and the company, helping lead policy making, defining goals and evaluating performance.
The board includes members with publishing, creative, retail, business and finance experience. The current Chair has reached the end of their tenure and will be standing down in 2020. Board members are asked to commit to a minimum of three years, with the option to renew for a further three.
Inpress is a National Portfolio Sector Support Organisation funded by Arts Council England, with funding confirmed until 2022.
