DESCRIPTION OF ROLE
Sovereign analyst engaged in research, analysis and assessment of emerging market risk. Provide views and investment ideas across the credits covered for both hard currency and local currency investments.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Taking the lead in the research process for the Emerging Market Sovereign Team within in a collaborative environment, in addition to an individual focus on Latin American countries.
Reviewing and forecasting economic fundamentals, political factors, valuations, technical, and ESG factors that determine credit risk, and updating the in-house research depositary, Credit Analysis Platform (CAP) to reflect high conviction views.
Analyse sovereign risk to assess suitability for investment across all portfolios and perform country due diligence as appropriate.
Engage with external research providers, stakeholders, and policy makers to inform views.
Drive in-house research publications on relevant countries, including coordination of thematic research across regions in collaboration with other Sovereign and Corporate Analysts.
Analyse hard and local currency and FX valuations in order to generate investment ideas across various different strategies.
Presenting country views at both internal and client meetings and providing written portfolio commentaries as necessary.
Working closely with the lead Sovereign PM in seeking to improve and articulate the sovereign investment process.
Collaborating with the broader EM team including Latam EM Corporate Analysts, Traders, Risk Strategist, Client PMs and EM Corporate PMs.
Provide mentoring and development to other members of the sovereign team.
Collaborating with other investment teams (Multi Asset, Developed Markets), as well as Marketing, Business Development and RPF teams.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
10+ years of experience in research/analysis role (experience in being solution driven through working with complex data)
A bachelor’s or master’s Degree in a relevant field (for instance international economics) or CFA. Demonstrated knowledge of macroeconomics and ability to form independent views (proven investment experience, preferably in a similar context a plus)
Strong excel/coding skills, knowledge of econometrics.
Keen interest in Emerging Markets and the history/trends that shape them. Willing to conduct country visits.
Independent thinker with a strong sense of initiative, ownership, and accountability, coupled with a well-developed collaborative spirit as much decision-making is done on a team basis.
Ability to cover variety of topics and get up to speed on unfamiliar issues, excellent analytical and time management skills.
Advanced interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
