We are looking to recruit a Clinical Psychologist with a passion for working with older people to join our West Essex in-patient team. Our Inpatient Older Adult Psychology service was set up in 2018, and the Psychology team are very well embedded into the MDT, with a Principal Clinical Psychologist leading the service. This role will suit someone with a desire for variety and initiative in their professional role, and will provide significant opportunities for growth and leadership.
Main duties of the job
The post is based in the two Older Adult wards. These wards serve older adults with mental health needs and/or a dementia, often with complex comorbidities and physical frailty. A central part of the role will be the provision of assessments (including neuropsychological assessments), formulations and interventions for older adults and people living with dementia. The role involves supporting in-patients and their family carers through the emotionally challenging time of a mental health crisis, and psychology has led on the development of an admission pack following a carer stress survey. The post holder will be responsible for the further development and promotion of psychologically informed ways of working in the MDT, for example supporting the culture change towards Trauma Informed Care. There will be opportunities for multi-disciplinary staff training and consultancy, and significant scope for the successful candidate to develop the role in response to local need and service development initiatives. Our current EPUT service development programme, Time to Care, is focused on enabling high quality care and enhanced patient, carer and staff experience across our wards. This new post has been created as part of the Time to Care programme, reflecting our commitment to ensuring patient-centred care, therapeutic in-patient stays, trauma informed care, more integrated working with urgent care and community services, and better collaboration with family carers.
