This postserves as a development opportunity for a registered nurse band 5/6 to gainexperience and skills within the role of Junior Sister / Charge Nurse on Avon 1on a 12 month fixed term contract.
Avon 1 isa 25 bedded general acute medical ward that delivers a high standard of careand support to acutely ill patients and on this ward, we have MDT approach.
We aim to provide an individualised and supportiveenvironment for patients in which to deliver this specialised care for acutelyunwell patients.
You will be expected to lead by example, infectionprevention and control must be high on your agenda and providing evidence basedcare to deliver a high standard service to our patients and supporting familiesand carers.
The successful candidate will be able to co-ordinateand prioritize care in a busy environment, working with a multi professionalteam of consultants, doctors and nurses.
The ability to communicate effectively with all membersof the multidisciplinary team is essential.

Job responsibilities
Toensure the maintenance of a high standard of nursing care at all times thoughthe effective management of staff and resources and to be available for adviceand support within the ward/unit.
Provideeffective leadership and to act as a good role model, as well as to liaise withall members of the multi-disciplinary team and co-ordinate all aspects of carein the best interests of the patient and family
Tosupervise junior staff and to teach qualified and unqualified staff asappropriate.
Achieveand maintain competence in identified mandatory and statutory training; developand maintain clinical competencies, skills and knowledge which relate to the areaof clinical practice (i.e. Venepuncture, Cannulation).

Experience
* Experience at Band 5 within the speciality or related field.
* Ward / Departmental management experience at Band 5 or above.
* Ward / Department based teaching.
* Managing clinical risk and incidents at Ward / Department level.
* Staff appraisals and PDR formation.
* Sickness absence / performance management
* Complaints handling.
* Using Essence of Care standards.
Qualifications
* RGN with current registration.
* Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
* Evidence of management experience / training.
* Post registration qualification or experience in the specialty.
* NMC recognised teaching and assessing qualification.
* Higher Degree
