Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a clinical expert in the field of Palliative Care and will be expected to fulfil the 4 domains of consultant level practice, as set out in NHS Englands Multi-professional consultant-level practice capability and impact framework (2020) working across the Fylde Coast.
They will practice at an advanced clinical level and exercise high levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care.
The role is intended to be split 50/50 between: -
* Direct autonomous Clinical Practice, potentially working across Palliative Care services (inpatient unit, community, and hospital liaison teams) on the Fylde Coast. They may have direct clinical responsibility for a patient cohort and will be expected to provide leadership and support for other Clinicians.
* Provide leadership, education, and Clinical Supervision for a team of Advanced Clinical Practitioners working clinically within the service (there are currently 5 directly clinical ACPs within the service).

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
-To provide senior clinical leadership to thenursing and clinical staff of the palliative care service
-Advise and co-lead on the future planning ofstrategic directions and service developments in relation to the palliativecare service.
-Participate in clinical supervision as asupervisor and supervisee.
-Liaise with health and social care professionalsboth internal and external to the Hospice, acting as a source of specialistpalliative care advice.
-Contribute to the delivery of education to allstaff groups.
-Act as Clinical Supervisor to the ClinicalAdvanced Clinical Practitioners within the organisation, who are qualified orin training; ensure they are supported and meet the competency framework as setout.
-Be available to Clinically support Doctors intraining (including GP trainees)
-Participate in weekly Specialist Palliative CareMulti-disciplinary team meetings.
-Attend relevant meetings internal and externalto the Hospice and participate in the development of policies, procedures andstandards pertaining to the clinical activity of the Hospice.
-Liaise with partners, such as Blackpool TeachingHospitals, Lancaster University and Hospices UK, to facilitate effective andappropriate research, actively involving self in the University Hospice model.
-Work collaboratively with the PalliativeMedicine Medical Consultants across the Fylde Coast to ensure delivery,continuity, and development of specialist palliative care.
-On appointment, as a minimum, should be workingtowards joining the Palliative Care 2nd on-call rota for the FyldeCoast.

Experience
* Experience of managing complex patients with palliative care needs
* Significant evidence of delivering teaching programmes to staff groups
* Evidence of working at a Senior level within Palliative Care
* Experience of leading service design development and redesign
* Evidence of involvement in local & national networks
* Significant experience of leading, training and developing staff
* Evidence of Clinically Leading a service
* Evidence of published papers and publications in peer reviewed journals
* Lead/chair national networks relating to Specialty
Skills, Knowledge and Competencies
* Evidence of excellent autonomous clinical practice including independent decision making and problem solving
* Able to prescribe all core end of life drugs on the Fylde coast and
* All common dugs utilised in palliative care.
* Demonstrate the ability to work in highly demanding environment.
* Ability to work in an MDT environment.
* Evidence of high-level diplomacy and negotiation skills
* Able to demonstrate imaginative and effective use of resources.
* Lead on the implementation of audit/research recommendations
* Evidence of significant involvement in change management
* Competent in use of IT packages

Qualifications
* Registered Nurse on NMC Register or Registered AHP on HCPC Register
