Job summary The successful candidate will liaise with the Senior Vascular Access Practitioner and other members of the team to contribute to the delivery of a specialist service, and coordinate and provide an IV device assessment and placement service in response to need across the Trust. Please note this vacancy will be based cross-site over York and Scarborough. Actively contribute to the effective development of the Vascular Access Team, and provide a specialist clinical and educational role to all areas of the Trust in respect to IV practice. Participate in the audit of IV practice across the Trust, utilising the findings for Trust wide education and improvements in practice alongside the Clinical Education Team. Provide Trust wide expertise to inform practice and protocol development, and contribute to the delivery of a specialist service and assess patients, plan and implement their care, provide specialist advice while maintaining records and carry out specialist patient care procedures, requiring frequent levels of concentration. Provide clinical supervision to other staff/students, and support clinical audits in own specialist area. Main duties of the job Provides specialist advice to patients and their families/carers, staff, and students. Takes responsibility for his/her own patient caseload/workload within the designated clinical area and for the assessment and treatment of patients on a day-to-day basis, without direct guidance from line manager. Understands and recognises own limitations and refers to a more experienced specialist when required. Provides and receives sensitive /highly sensitive, complex or contentious information to patients, their relatives, and members of the public with empathy and reassurance. Explain risks/benefits of procedures to patients/carers, ensuring adequate information has been given to allow informed consent. Communicates with a range of other staff, acting as a specialist resource.
