Job Title: Venue Manager – The Birds Nest Location: International House, Brixton Salary: £40 - 50k per annum (depending on experience) benefits (standard pension contribution) Hours: 40 hours per week (flexibility required to meet operational needs) Probation Period: 3 months About The Role We’re looking for a Venue Manager to take charge of The Birds Nest, our new pizza restaurant, café, and bar on the rooftop of International House in Brixton. It’s a varied role, especially in the early days as we get the site up and running, so we need someone who’s organised, flexible, and ready to get stuck in. Initially, you’ll also cover Front of House (FOH) duties for the adjacent Rooftop Saunas, greeting guests and pointing them in the right direction. As we get busier, the focus will shift fully to The Birds Nest, and you’ll help recruit and train a FOH team for the saunas. This role is for someone with a proven ability to implement and refine organisational processes, establish effective systems, and lead a team, creating a venue that runs smoothly and becomes a destination people love to visit. Key Responsibilities • Running the Venue: Overseeing the day-to-day of The Birds Nest, from the café and bar to table bookings and stock management. • Guest Experience: Welcoming sauna guests in the beginning and ensuring a great experience all round. • Team Management: Rotas, staffing quiet weekdays vs. busy weekends, and building a strong team. • Recruit and onboard new team members, ensuring they align with the ethos of The Birds Nest. • Stock & Systems: Managing stock orders, inventory, and putting in place a simple, effective stock take system. • Community Building: Building great relationships with International House/3Space residents and staff to make The Birds Nest a go-to spot. • Liaising with marketing team. • Adaptability: Embracing change and finding opportunities to refine processes, respond to challenges, and improve the overall experience for staff and customers. Support Network • Ade: Your go-to for anything maintenance-related. • Sam (COO): Your go-to for systems, digital and online. • Laurita (GM for Rooftop Saunas): On hand to help with sauna operations. • Ollie: Fully manages the pizza kitchen, so you’ll be working closely with him on the food side. • Intent team: You would be liaising with Ryan and his team at Intent Brand Work, manage our marketing and socials. What We’re Looking For • Organised: You’ll be juggling lots of different responsibilities, so keeping things running smoothly is key. • Hands-On: Especially in the early days, you’ll need to wear a few hats – from managing to pitching in when needed. • Sociable: You’ll be the face of The Birds Nest, so building relationships with guests, residents, and staff is a big part of the role. • Experienced: Previous experience in F&B, hospitality, or a similar role is essential. • Agile: You’re comfortable with change and thrive in dynamic environments where you can adapt quickly and find creative solutions.
