We have an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and enthusiastic Post-Doctoral Research Associate to join the team in Liverpool. As the first institution of its kind in the world, dedicated to education and research in tropical diseases, it’s an exciting time to join Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) as we enter our 125th anniversary year in 2023.
The position will be based within the Biostatistics Unit within the Department of Clinical Sciences at LSTM which conducts research in infectious diseases, in low- and middle-income countries across the globe. Its remits are to develop medical statistics and biomathematics capacity as part of the overall school mission in research and postgraduate training; to provide statistical and mathematical support for research projects within the School; and to develop cutting edge methodological research with a focus on practical issues in translational research relevant to the School research portfolio.
Primarily the post holder will contribute to the design of clinical trials and observational studies, support the development and deployment of statistical tools applicable to a broad range of clinical and epidemiological research, and perform statistical analyses of data.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their own areas of research interest and to focus on specific areas of work to complement the unit’s expertise.
Key responsibilities are (but not limited to):
* Conduct methodological research on the design, analysis and reporting of clinical trials and observational studies
* Perform independent statistical analyses on data generated by research projects and assist in communicating the findings in peer-reviewed publications or report
* Carry out independent statistical analyses of clinical trials, under the supervision of the senior statistician; generate regular data safety monitoring committee reports and produce statistical reports
* Advise and assist the research teams on study design and sample size in preparation of grant applications
* Advise and support non-statistical researchers with regard to basic statistical analyses
* Lead on the design, implementation and conduct of clinical trials and epidemiological studies in low-resource settings
* To write papers for high impact international journals
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary, multi-national research team. You will have well-developed research skills with the ability to effectively present research findings in oral and written format. You will also demonstrate:
* PhD or equivalent experience in statistics, or related field
* Experience of statistics in applied research and epidemiological research
* Knowledge of statistical theory and applications
* Proven ability to write up and present research results
* Proficiency in SAS/Stata/R for data management and statistical analysis
* Meticulous and accurate in all aspects of work
