HV Design Engineer
The successful candidate must possess demonstrable design experience from LV to 33kV within the power, utilities, and/or critical national electrical infrastructure sectors. This position allows for some agile working, with up to 1-2 days working from home, the rest in the Northwest or Northeast offices.
Our Client
Our client is responsible for the construction, maintenance, upkeep, renewal, refurbishment, and repair of electricity transmission and distribution networks, assets, and systems. This includes substations, overhead lines, underground cables, and all associated equipment such as switchgear and transformers.
Overview
Our client wishes to appoint a number of highly motivated and industry-experienced HV Design Engineers. The main purpose of these roles will be to manage the development and production of highly competitive and innovative designs for multiple contracts, frameworks, or singular projects, ensuring maximum opportunity and minimum risk, and that stakeholders receive a high-quality service, on schedule and to challenging budget requirements. The successful candidate will also contribute to general technical support activities, ensuring successful project assistance at the front-end stages and timely handover to operations, through to offering guidance and advice during the construction stage if required.
The Role
1. Preparation of designs from LV to 33kV
2. Providing designs for a variety of works and turnkey projects, covering all disciplines
3. Liaising with manufacturers and suppliers to develop partnerships for design solutions
4. Following up designs and offering feedback, advice, or guidance as required
5. Attend site surveys, route walks, and other meetings if necessary
6. Establishing key aspects associated with projects, providing designs, liaising with internal departments, and submitting final project capabilities
7. Evaluate supplier and subcontract returns to ensure compliance with specifications and documentation
8. Accurately undertake any necessary take-offs of drawings and schedules
9. Follow all company procedures for enquiries and design handling
10. Draft commentary regarding exclusions and clarifications associated with designs
11. Working with relevant business systems to maintain data integrity
12. Assist in the creation and management of processes for project teams
13. Managing key stakeholder requests in a professional and timely manner
The Person
1. Preferably possessing an HNC in a relevant discipline, with demonstrable experience and technical expertise from within the power sector
2. Possess strong commercial and business awareness to identify and recommend appropriate design proposals that meet customer needs
3. Highly motivated and accurate, with attention to detail
4. Proficient in the use of industry-related design software across multiple platforms
5. Excellent communication skills, adapting style to both technical and non-technical audiences
6. Utilise information and industry knowledge to produce innovative design solutions
7. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to use initiative as well as work collaboratively in a team
8. Ability to produce high-quality designs and associated reports with minimal supervision
9. Possess design and build experience, refurbishment, and maintenance expertise, with the ability to evaluate design scope gaps
