An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Neonatal Nurse to join Bradford NICU's education team for one year on a fixed term basis.
We are looking for highly skilled nurses to become part of our "on the shop floor" education team. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator, an exceptional role model and will be competent in the provision and teaching of Neonatal Care.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work with the minimum of supervision and co-ordinate his/her activities in order to ensure that education on the NICU is high on the agenda of all colleagues. The primary focus of the role of the clinical educator will be to embed newly qualified nurses (or those new to neonates) into the unit culture and ethos of learning. Additionally, the role will be concerned with developing a highly skilled neonatal workforce for the future who can provide safe and high quality care.
Job responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
* Provide a credible and dependable role model to the neonatal nursing team by delivering high quality family centred care to babies requiring all levels of care on the neonatal unit.
* Provide leadership to the nursing team and motivate.
* Delegate duties as safe and appropriate and empower staff to develop their own nursing, management and leadership skills.
* Promote the development of nurses and support staff as considered appropriate.
* Implement, monitor and seek to continuously improve standards and the quality of care for babies.
* Promote evidence based practice.
* Maintain a safe working environment for patients, staff and visitors.
* Supervise and maintain accurate written and electronic records using the Trust's documentation systems and standards.
* Ensure the safe use and efficient management of equipment and supplies.
* Polices high quality infection control practices, liaises with experts in the IPCC team and challenges poor practice in an appropriate, constructive and educational way.
Professional
* To personally adhere to and uphold the NMC Professional Code of Conduct at all times.
* To maintain clinical competence and credibility, acting as a role model for best practice nursing ensuring that nursing care is provided to a high standard and is responsive to a changing service.
* Ensure directives given to colleagues are clear and unambiguous.
* Provide emotional and professional support to staff following critical incidents.
* Participate in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures and guidelines in order to establish goals and standards, ensuring these are met.
* Follow Trust policies and protocols and ensure junior colleague compliance.
* Take an active role in the education of each and every junior colleague and actively encourage access to ESR e-learning.
* Ensure the unit adheres to strict Information Governance and Confidentiality procedures.
Education, Research and Audit
* To contribute to designing training courses and be instrumental in their delivery.
* Assist in the completion of a yearly Training Needs Analysis to guide future education delivery and ensure targeted training is provided to meet identified needs.
* Provide basic pastoral support (as required) for all trainees or learners within the service.
* Refer complex learner concerns to the appropriate educational team e.g. Senior practice educator team, so that specialist advice and support can be provided.
* Assist with clinical supervision or the assessment of clinical skills (within scope of own competence).
* Design bespoke training sessions where a need is identified, utilising your links and knowledge of the Education Department to ensure a timely and efficient response.
* Participate in the development and delivery of multi-professional simulation training to meet the learning needs of staff and trainees within the organisation.
* Work with the Education Lead - Resuscitation Training, to support the delivery of resuscitation courses.
* Provide support and assurance that competency assessments are appropriately being completed for all colleagues working on the NICU.
* Have an awareness of ward/departmental student capacity, current student feedback, mentor/supervisor capacity and knowledge of the opportunities available within Trust for alternative or additional placement experiences (shadowing specialist services etc.).
* Maintain clinical credibility through appropriate clinical practice.
* In conjunction with Clinical Educators, Education Leads & Managers, and clinical staff to identify best practice and key issues to inform education provision each year.
* In conjunction with the Risk Management team and clinical staff identify key risk issues to inform education provision each year.
* Regularly review/update teaching materials amend as indicated by evidence/research.
* Maintain inventory of equipment, stocks and consumables required for course delivery.
* Undertake other duties at a comparable level of responsibility as may be allocated to the post by your line manager.
Person Specification
Skills
* Competent in the use of standard IT packages and the aptitude to learn how to use new IT systems.
Qualifications
* RSCN/RN (Child)/ RM / RN (Adult)
* Post registration qualification - Neonatal Qualified in specialty
* Teaching and assessing qualification e.g. ENB (998) /SLIP or equivalent*
* Degree or equivalent level of education or equivalent experience*
* Evidence of ongoing professional, personal and academic development.
Experience
* Significant post-registration experience in Neonatal Care.
* Experience of working in an MDT and across organisational and professional boundaries.
* Experience of assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of training and education for staff.
* Experience of working on a level 3 NICU.
* Experience of facilitating simulation training.
Knowledge
* Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff.
* Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality.
* Evidence of current CPD.
* Understanding of what the NHS Constitution means to you, and your responsibilities to the public, patients and colleagues.
