The Orpheus Centre is an independent specialist College in Godstone, Surrey. We focus on developing independence skills through performing and visual arts and make dramatic improvements to young disabled adults’ lives. Set up by musician and songwriter Sir Richard Stilgoe, Orpheus offers learning, supported housing and personal care all on the same site in Godstone, Surrey. We showcase what Orpheus students can offer in the workplace and we challenge the barriers to employment faced by some disabled people. We are currently seeking a Part-Time Assistant Chef / Kitchen Assistant to support the Chef Manager with any duties required in order to ensure the smooth running of the kitchen, serving area, and seating area. You should be able to follow instructions, as well as being able to step up in the absence of the Chef Manager when required. You must have the ability to allocate duties and responsibilities to other kitchen staff members as well as work as a team. The candidate must have a passion for food, and ability to prepare and cook to a high standard; someone who understands the importance of and managing any customer allergies. You will be able to manage portion control, promote and monitor food hygiene and safety standards, as well as clean the kitchen to a high standard. This role has daily interaction with learners, staff and volunteers; therefore, you should be someone who is friendly, approachable and passionate with excellent customer service skills. You will need to be able to treat people with dignity, have good listening and observation skills, number skills, and some awareness of the challenges faced by disabled young adults. Experience of working within a catering environment and a Level 2 food hygiene certificate is required. (We are willing to provide training for the right candidate). Salary: £11,890.32 per annum (£20,808.10 Full Time Equivalent) 20 hours a week, 42 weeks per year (hours may be altered on occasions according to the needs of the curriculum and organisation) Monday to Friday – 10am to 2pm (can be flexible) Please note that this is a term time only contract for 42 weeks a year, 38 of which are term weeks, plus 4 weeks of training and kitchen deep cleans to be worked as required by the organisation.
