We are looking for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our Stroke team at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust based at Bournemouth Hospital. For a fixed term 1 year contract.
The successful applicant will be required to provide neurological skilled Occupational Therapy assessment and treatment to clients with neurological problems, including assessment, acute rehabilitation, discharge planning and appropriate onward referral. We are looking for an innovative Occupational Therapist who is keen to develop their skills in the area of stroke, who can demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to implement evidence-based practice.
Main duties of the job
The team is an integrated Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Speech and Language Therapy team. Work within this post provides an ideal opportunity to develop skills in stroke assessment and early rehabilitation, receive training and support to develop stroke skills and be a positive influence on patient care.
To be successful in securing this post, you will have:
* Experience of working as an occupational therapist or placements in an acute hospital
* Willingness to participate in 7 day working on a rota basis
* Ability to drive and hold a clean driver’s license

Person specification
Education
* BSc (Hons)/ MSc (Hons) in Occupational Therapy
* HCPC Registration or pending
* Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
* Member of British Association of Occupational Therapy
* Evidence of a variety of rotations/placements with examples
Skills
* Ability to assess, manage & treat people with a variety of acute presentations affecting their performance status, effectively and independently
* Skills in goal setting & evaluating outcome measures
* Able to work within an MDT
Experience
* Clinical experience in core areas including working within an Acute Hospital or Community Setting (inc placement)
* Expressed desire to work with stroke patients
* Covered core areas including • Orthopaedics • Neurology • Experience of working in the community
* Worked as occupational therapist in the NHS or in a system comparable to the NHS for 12 months
* Experience working with patients with stroke or neurological conditions
Personal Attributes
* Flexibility and ability to work under pressure
* Ability to drive and hold a clean driver’s license
* Ability to deal appropriately with difficult situations
* Ability to demonstrate appropriate techniques to patients, relatives, carers & staff
