JOB TITLE: Tree Warden Scheme – Volunteer Engagement Officer
BASED: Based remotely, this post will be working primarily across central England and Wales, with occasional visits to the London office so someone based across this central belt would be ideal. Some weekend and evening working will be required to support volunteer networks, training, and events across the country.
THE ROLE: The Tree Council is seeking a passionate and experienced Volunteer Scheme Officer to join our dynamic team. This new role involves supporting and expanding the national volunteer Tree Warden Scheme, primarily across central England and Wales, while contributing to a groundbreaking Defra-funded research project called‘Tree Health Walks’.
Key Responsibilities:
* Coordinate and deliver the nationalTree Warden Scheme to a high standard.
* Shape and implement the ‘Tree Health Walks’ research programme in partnership with Defra.
* Work closely with volunteers, local authorities, and community groups to inspire and empower action for trees and hedgerows.
* Lead guided walks, public talks, and support local volunteer networks, including some evening and weekend travel.
About You:
You have:
* 3+ years’ experience in environmental volunteering schemes or a social science practical research background.
* Excellent people and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and unite diverse groups.
* Knowledge or a keen interest in trees, tree health, and their ecological importance.
* Experience in public speaking and community engagement, ideally including leading walks or talks.
* A passion for connecting people with the environment and advocating for trees’ vital role in society.
