Job description: What you’ll be responsible for What we do: Welsh Water spends around £70m each year on energy across its 4,700 powered sites. The Energy Team supports the business to ensure that energy use is minimised, where possible is self-generated on site, and if bought is done so at the lowest possible cost. It operates and/or maintains over 90 renewable energy generation assets and manages the Company’s significant investment into further energy efficiency and generation, innovating wherever possible. The Energy team’s investment programme is increasingly focused on reducing carbon emissions as part of Welsh Water’s Net-Zero strategy. What you’ll be responsible for: Driving our capital investment programme, developing further energy projects, and bringing commercial opportunities into focus. You will also line manage an analytical team to identify and deliver the programme• Generating a pipeline of technically and financially viable projects. • Timely and successful completion of the energy capital programme ensuring the team fulfil a client role to see those projects through.• Demonstrating the confidence and level of knowledge to represent the team and Welsh Water both within the business and to external stakeholders.• Managing the energy capital programme, ensuring clear reporting, accurate financial updates and risk and mitigations strategies are in place for each project.• Critically evaluating project value and risk and prioritise projects to ensure the best returns from the investment case.• Ensuring compliance with Welsh Water procurement procedures, management of contractors and technical standards.• Assisting in the delivery of best-in-class health & safety performance in line with the Welsh Water vision.• Working with Capital Delivery and Partners to maximise opportunities for renewable energy generation and energy efficiency within the main capital programme. • Actively seeking opportunities to develop additional benefits from the programme (e.g. biodiversity or catchment management enhancements).• Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.• Ensure DCWW’s interests are always protected and that risks to the business are minimised.
