The school is seeking to appoint an experienced and qualified person to be responsible for the day to day management of the school laboratories and the preparation of practical science classes. The person appointed must have practical skills in all science disciplines and be conversant with current safety practices. They should be able to work independently and as part of the science team, showing initiative and enthusiasm and a desire to work with pupils.
To facilitate the preparation of chemicals and apparatus for practical classes
To be responsible for the ordering of textbooks, apparatus and chemicals and to maintain appropriate records.
To obtain items from local suppliers when appropriate
To ensure that the inventory of apparatus and chemicals is kept up to date
To ensure that apparatus is kept clean and in working order and to advise the Head of Department of replacement needs.
To be familiar with current health and safety regulations pertaining to school science lessons and attend appropriate training courses as necessary.
To be familiar with the setting up and working of specialist apparatus, including computers and audio visual screens.
To ensure that laboratories and the preparation room are left clean and tidy at the end of each working day.
To assist science teachers with photo-copying of tests and examinations when appropriate.
To assist in other areas of the school on special occasions or as a need arises.
Applicants should be enthusiastic and ambitious for the pupils and the school. They should also possess a genuine enjoyment for school life and be willing to play a part in the extra curricular activities of the school.
St. John’s is a co-educational, day school. Age range 11-19 and situated in 26 acres of green belt grounds. Maximum 19 pupils per class.
