We are looking to appoint consultants in anaesthetics with an interest in:1. General Anaesthesia and perioperative medicine2. Management3. Teaching In the consultant ad, the post comprises 10 programmed activities. 7.5 PAs will be dedicated to anaesthetic sessions, which may be worked flexibly throughout the week. 1 PA will be allocated to on-call. The remaining 1.5 PAs will be allocated for SPA. Job Planning: The Job Plan will be a prospective agreement between the appointee and the chief ofservice, that sets out a consultants duties, responsibilities and objectives for the comingyear. It covers all aspects of a consultants professional practice including clinical work,teaching, research, education and managerial responsibilities. It provides a clearschedule of commitments, both internal and external. In addition, it includes personalobjectives, including details of links to wider service objectives, and details of supportrequired by the consultant to fulfil the job plan and the objectives. Changes havingbudgetary or contractual implications would also need the agreement of the chiefexecutive. One half day per month is dedicated to audit and teaching during which time all routinework is suspended. All staff are expected to attend except for those providing emergencycare cover and those on leave. The directorate meeting is also held at this time. It isassumed that every member of the department will play a full part in formal and informalteaching of medical and other staff, and this is recognized as part of SupportingProfessional Activities (SPA). CPD/ Study Leave: All members of the Department are encouraged to take study leave and will be expectedto undertake CME in line with the Royal College of Anaesthetists CPD requirements. Person Specification Qualifications Essential • Full GMC registration • FRCA or equivalent • Listed on GMC UK Specialist Register or within 6 months of gaining CCT in Anaesthesia at the date of the interview Desirable • MRCP or similar qualification • Postgraduate qualification in perioperative medicine • Qualification in regional anaesthesia Competencies Essential • Able to evaluate own clinical practice • Able to demonstrate innovative thinking • Good written and oral communication skills • Ability to organise and develop service provision • Management: understanding the structures of NHS hospitals and willing to play a role in the Department and in the Hospital Desirable • IT literate • Experience in Management • Experience in conducting high-risk anaesthetic clinic. Experience Essential • A wide grounding during training in all aspects of anaesthesia • Provider status in ATLS ALS and PALS (or equivalent) • Understand principles and participated in audit activity • Understand the principles of Clinical Governance and demonstrate experience of evidence based practice • Willingness to teach undergraduate and post graduates particularly, in the weekly protected trainee teaching sessions Desirable • Postgraduate qualification in teaching • Evidence of recognition of teaching excellence • Relevant research
