GSL Education are currently recruiting a Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA) for a rewarding role in Weymouth, where you will work with students facing mental health challenges in both primary and secondary education settings. About the Role:
In this dynamic role, you will work closely with teachers, mental health professionals and support staff to identify individual student needs and tailor your approach accordingly. By offering a calm and empathetic presence, you will help students build coping mechanisms, overcome barriers to learning and thrive academically.
Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA) Responsibilities:
* Supporting students with mental health challenges in both one-to-one and group settings, providing tailored assistance as needed.
* Assisting students in regulating their emotions and helping them develop positive coping strategies to manage stress, anxiety and other emotional challenges.
* Collaborating with teachers and other professionals to create individualised learning plans and provide effective emotional and educational support.
* Facilitating students’ academic progress by offering additional assistance, guidance and encouragement where necessary.
* Monitoring students' emotional well-being, reporting concerns to relevant staff and working with external mental health services when needed.
* Encouraging students to participate in classroom activities, helping them to stay engaged and motivated.
* Offering practical and emotional support to students during difficult moments, ensuring they feel valued and respected at all times.
Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA) Job Requirements:
* Training or certification in Mental Health First Aid or trauma-informed care is advantageous.
* Experience working with young people facing a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression and emotional regulation challenges.
* Hold a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent) or relevant qualifications in mental health or care.
* Possess an understanding of mental health challenges and the ability to offer emotional and behavioural support to students.
* Be proactive, empathetic and able to communicate effectively with students, teachers and parents.
* Have a patient and compassionate approach, with the ability to adapt your support to meet the diverse needs of students.
* Previous experience in an SEN or SEMH role is desirable.
* Full-time availability and the ability to commit to the role daily.
* Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
