Major Trauma Occupational Therapy Team Lead Band 7
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic and enthusiastic occupational therapist with excellent multidisciplinary communication to lead and develop the Major Trauma Occupational Therapy team. This post is integral to the delivery of a high standard of therapeutic care and is crucial to the multidisciplinary team's ability to provide smooth and appropriate discharge planning with the wider community MDT. The successful candidate will work as a senior clinician in major trauma areas and must have extensive demonstrable experience at a senior level in the field of major trauma, trauma orthopaedics, cardiothoracic or neurosurgery, working in the acute environment. Candidates should demonstrate an appropriate level of personal autonomy, clinical skill, leadership, and proven knowledge of the national healthcare agenda that impacts day-to-day life in a major trauma department. Good interpersonal skills, the ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment, and the capability to lead a team in challenging times are essential.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Perform as Occupational Therapy Team Lead in your specialist area, responsible for leading and contributing to the continuing development of a comprehensive, 7-day working specialist occupational therapy service.
2. Stand in for Head of Service in their absence and represent Occupational Therapy at Trust wide and other meetings as required.
3. Provide comprehensive assessment, treatment, and evaluation of all referred patients.
4. Lead the Team and provide day-to-day management, support, supervision, and organization of workload for staff.
5. Support the Head of Service in the day-to-day management of the department.
6. Be professionally and legally accountable for actions and work with no supervision.

Job Responsibilities
1. Ensure that patients, relatives, and those whom you come into contact with are aware of the role of the Occupational Therapist and components of the Occupational Therapy treatment programme.
2. Obtain informed consent from the patient and work within the current legal framework for patients who lack capacity to consent.
3. Select from a range of standardised and non-standardised assessments to assess and aid diagnosis, addressing trauma management, sensory, cognitive, perceptual, behavioural, motor, splinting, psychosocial needs, and functional abilities.
4. Make reliable interpretations of assessment results to inform other professionals in the diagnosis and management of patients' needs and guide the Occupational Therapy treatment plan.
5. Carry out home assessments and/or follow-up visits where appropriate to facilitate discharge.
6. Assess for and provide aids and adaptive equipment to increase, enable or compensate for independent function.
7. Assess for wheelchairs, specialist seating, and positioning needs and treat as required.
8. Assess for and identify the appropriate type of mechanical lifting device/hoist to be used in a patient's home for discharge.
9. Advise the Major Trauma team on appropriate rehabilitation & discharge options for patients.
10. Review, record and report regularly on patient progress and treatment to the MDT.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* To hold a degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy.
* To be HCPC registered.
* Extensive demonstrable experience as an Occupational Therapist in the physical field.
* Proven knowledge of a wide range of OT equipment and minor adaptations.
* Relevant qualifications and experience in the physical field, including demonstrable experience of pressure on wards.
* Demonstrable experience in leading a Team of Occupational Therapy staff.
Knowledge & Experience
* Extensive demonstrable experience as an Occupational Therapist in the physical field.
* Experience with a wide range of Neurosurgical, Cardiothoracic and Orthopaedic conditions.
* Specialist proven knowledge & demonstrable experience of a wide range of OT assessments and interventions relevant to these patient groups.
* Good verbal and written English skills.
* Proven knowledge of a wide range of OT equipment and minor adaptations.
* Demonstrable experience in liaising with community services and caseload management.
* Skills in staff appraisal and allocating work within a Team.
* Experience in conducting audits and research & development activities.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Experience in teaching other members of the MDT team.
* Leadership training.

Salary: £46,148 to £52,809 a year (Per Annum, Pro Rata)
