We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Financial Controller to oversee the financial operations of our growing company. This role will be responsible for managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls, ensuring compliance with regulations, and driving financial strategy to support business growth. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented professional with strong leadership abilities and a deep understanding of accounting principles and financial processes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting
• Prepare and present accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement) in compliance with UK GAAP.
• Ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes are completed on time and with a high degree of accuracy.
• Oversee preparation and analysis of financial reports to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for the business.
2. Budgeting & Forecasting
• Lead the budgeting process, working closely with department heads to ensure budgets are realistic and align with company goals.
• Prepare rolling forecasts and conduct variance analysis to compare actual results to budgets/forecasts, providing actionable insights for management.
3. Internal Controls & Compliance
• Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Monitor and enforce financial policies, ensuring adherence to laws, regulations, and company standards.
• Coordinate with external auditors for year-end audits, always ensuring audit readiness.
4. Cash Flow Management
• Oversee the company’s cash flow management, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs and capital investments.
• Optimise working capital through efficient management of payables and inventory.
5. Financial Analysis & Decision Support
• Provide strategic financial analysis and advice to the executive team, helping guide key business decisions.
• Conduct cost-benefit analysis, financial projections, and scenario planning to evaluate business opportunities and risks.
6. Team Leadership & Development
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering a high-performance culture.
• Ensure continuous professional development and training for the finance team to enhance their technical and leadership capabilities.
7. Systems & Process Improvement
• Drive improvements in accounting and financial reporting systems, processes, and procedures.
• Lead or collaborate on finance technology projects to enhance efficiency and reduce errors in financial operations.
Qualifications
1. Education
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• ACCA/ACA/CIMA or similar professional accounting qualification is preferred.
2. Experience
• Several years of experience in financial accounting, with experience in a managerial or supervisory role.
• Experience with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and financial compliance standards.
• Proficiency in accounting software (ideally Xero) and Microsoft Excel.
3. Skills & Competencies
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong leadership and team management abilities.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

Working Conditions
• Full-time position with potential for occasional evening or weekend work depending on financial reporting deadlines.
• This is an office-based role within our Head Office at Sunley House Olds Approach, Northwood, Watford, WD18 9TB, given the requirement to work closely with department heads and train the finance team.
