We are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to join our Lung Team as a Macmillan Lung Cancer Specialist Nurse within the Medical Division. This is a full-time, permanent position covering Monday to Friday. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will provide education and specialist advice to patients, their carers, and staff on specific care and treatments. The CNS will support from diagnosis through treatment and throughout the cancer journey. Using advanced communication and psychological assessment skills, the CNS will aim to assess and alleviate the psychological distress for cancer patients and their families, including identification of need for onward referral to other agencies and disciplines as appropriate.
You will act as a valuable resource for the MDT and set standards of care, influence the work of other professional groups, and act as a change agent. Post-registration experience in lung care and cancer/palliative care is desirable but not essential. You must be able to demonstrate excellent communication, organisational skills, and basic IT skills. Previous experience working with CERNER is an advantage. You must have experience of working both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to prioritise your workload.
Main duties of the job
A background in Acute Respiratory nursing is essential to the role. Excellent communication skills and an ability to prioritise workload, whilst working as part of a team, is also necessary. It is essential to have basic IT skills and previous experience working with CERNER is an advantage.
Using advanced communication and psychological assessment skills, the CNS will aim to ensure every cancer patient has a care plan tailored to their personal needs, including identification of need for onward referral to other agencies and disciplines as appropriate.
Provide education and specialist advice to patients, their carers, and staff on the specific care and treatment for the specialty.
The ability to demonstrate enhanced clinical skills is essential for this role.
