About us Dyson is a global technology enterprise. We solve the problems others choose to ignore, with surprising new inventions that defy convention and simply work better. We’re driven by progress and enjoy the opportunity to continuously improve what we do. We’re growing fast and our aspirations are huge – more categories, more locations and more people. Our scale and rapid growth make Dyson rich in new opportunities. We value new ideas and diverse perspectives, so our people are trusted with real work and responsibility from the outset. You’ll develop fast and have the chance to move into different business areas and regions. And you’ll be part of a global network of curious people – a community that supports and learns from each other. Power Systems is a global team part of the wider Dyson RDD (Research, Design and Development) function that designs and develops Dyson’s internal technologies that enable most of our products. The Power Systems team has experts in a wide range of areas (mechanical, electrical, software, project management) and is responsible for the development from early stages through to production of Dyson’s internal technologies. About the role We are looking for talented interns to get involved in the development of the next generation of Dyson’s intelligent power systems. This is a broad opportunity for those who have an interest in electronics hardware (power, analog and digital), motor design, control algorithms and test systems to work in our Motor and Power Electronics team. In all cases work will have design, simulation and hands on elements. Interns will be selected to work with one or more of the Motor and Power Systems sub-teams according to ability and interest. A Placement could be available within: Power Electronics and Energy Storage: Designing and developing cutting-edge power electronics hardware, including battery management systems, digital motors drivers, heater controllers, power converters and many others. Advanced Control Systems: Creating robust novel control systems which unlock new product functions by achieving a deep understanding of modelled system behaviour, measured data features or by fusing multiple data sources. Motor design and control: Designing bespoke electric motors and motor control systems to meet demanding requirements. These motors are modelled, built and tested in-house to achieve the best compromise across magnetic, electrical, mechanical, thermal and mass production challenges. Advanced Test Systems: Creating unique systems to facilitate the verification of motors and the technologies that drive them. A mix of engineering disciplines, including automation, electronics, and embedded software are employed in the full development cycle - from requirements gathering, through to implementation and deployment. For the duration of your internship, you will have regular performance conversations as well as opportunities for development to enable you to build your reputation within the wider team and we’ll be looking to offer our high performing interns the opportunity to return on our graduate programme. You will be supported by experienced engineers and managers who can provide technical mentoring and career coaching. You will also be interacting with teams across Research Design & Development from product designers to mechanical and software engineers, providing a great opportunity to develop and improve your skills and expertise while working within the international and multicultural teams who create high performance products which are more sustainable, reliable, and intelligent.
