About HOME:
HOME is an early support mental health and emotional wellbeing hub for young people in Barnsley aged between 11 and 25 that provides open access, flexible, early support in a non-judgmental welcoming, safe space. Chilypep are the lead organization for HOME with responsibility for both the building and what goes on in it. Chilypep lead a weekly wellbeing programme for young people as well our Barnsley based projects including Young Commissioners and BRV which operate from HOME. Chilypep also work with a range of partners to meet the needs of young people from HOME and the Youth Employment Hub (DWP/BMBC) are based at HOME and provides young people with further information, signposting, and support on a range of services and responses which will meet their needs. Our work is a combination of youth work approaches and principles, and early intervention and prevention services based on good practice, with young people’s voice at the heart of everything we do.
This post will sit within the HOME team providing direct therapeutic interventions for young people through our Talk@HOME counselling service. The post holder will have a recognised qualification in a humanistic approach to psychotherapy at least a Level 5 and be a member of a recognised professional body.
The post will be based in the centre of Barnsley at HOME, 1 Blucher Street, Barnsley, S70 1AP.
Main Purpose of the Role:
To provide 1-2-1 therapeutic interventions and counselling for young people aged between 11 and 25 through the Talk@HOME service as part of the HOME Wellbeing Programme. This will include associated administration and outcome tasks necessary for the delivery of the service.
Working Relationships:
Internal: Worker will be based at the HOME Wellbeing Hub, Barnsley and will be part of the Chilypep Barnsley Team, led by the HOME Manager. The team has a range of Project Coordinators, workers, assistant project workers and students and volunteers on placements.
The post-holder will maintain regular contact with the board of trustees, CEO, HOME Manager, project coordinators, project workers, finance officer, administrator and Chilypep’s project volunteers.
Supervision and project management: Regular line management and annual appraisal with the HOME Manager.
External clinical supervision supported by Chilypep.
External: Where appropriate working with children and young people and their families, project partners, including CAMHS & Compass BE and other relevant local authority, voluntary & statutory agencies, community groups and projects.
Key Tasks:
• To manage a caseload of between 12-15 clients a week.
• Providing up to 20 therapy sessions to each client, allowing them to explore the issues presented and to support the client to develop strategies for coping and making positive changes.
• Support initial assessments and allocation of young people to members of Talk@Home team.
• Ensure record keeping and session note taking is up to date and confidential.
• To support bank counsellors in Talk@HOME with practical support such as access to the building and necessary paperwork.
• Take part in peer supervision with other members of Talk@HOME team, where possible.
• Engage in supervision with a qualified supervisor monthly in order to reflect on sessions and to raise personal issues and professional concerns.
• Meet regularly with the HOME Manager to discuss the ongoing progress of the service and to raise any concerns or discuss developments.
• Signpost and refer clients to external services where appropriate and relevant.
• Evaluate the work of the service and contribute to the outcomes of HOME and relevant reports.
• Ensure that the safety of young people is always considered, managing risk factors following Chilypep Safeguarding protocols.
• Contribute to regular reports to the Chilypep Management Committee including the Chilypep Annual Impact Report and quarterly reports to the Hub Stakeholders Group and South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board and other relevant funders.
General Duties:
• As part of HOME team responsibility, contribute to the smooth running and daily maintenance of the Hub including opening up/locking up, ensuring the building is clean and tidy, answering the telephone and front door, and other relevant tasks.
• Participate in project team meetings and other appropriate internal and external meetings.
• Undertake other tasks as may be reasonably requested in consultation with the HOME Manager.
• Carry out the responsibilities of the post with full regard to Chilypep’s equal opportunities, health and safety, and safeguarding policies and procedures.
Working Conditions:
Contact with children and young people forms the basis of Chilypep’s work, so this post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
Travel will be required across Barnsley as well as to regional and occasionally national meetings and training events.
The post is based on 25 hours per week. Flexible working hours will be required with some evening and weekend work.
Holidays – 38 days per year inclusive of bank holidays pro rata to hours worked.
