We seek a Head of Engineering to lead and scale the team, aligning technology with business goals. This hands-on role involves architecture, strategy, and execution, fostering a high-performance engineering culture.
As a Head of Engineering, you'll be leading top fintech engineers from Revolut, Square, and SumUp, driving technical strategy and innovation in a fast-moving startup environment.
Responsibilities
1. Define the technical strategy and long-term architecture of the core platform in collaboration with the founding team and technical product owner.
2. Lead, mentor, and guide a high-performing team of senior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
3. Drive the recruitment, retention, and development of top engineering talent, ensuring a world-class engineering function.
4. Take a pragmatic approach to software development, balancing scalability, security, and high performance for mission-critical systems.
5. Continuously monitor KPIs to assess team effectiveness and solution outcomes.
6. Establish and refine processes for rapid issue detection, real-time production issue resolution, and root cause analysis.
7. Work closely with cross-functional teams to align technical requirements and project scope with product goals and business objectives.
8. Balance technical debt with feature development, ensuring a scalable and sustainable technology stack.
9. Drive execution with a relentless focus on delivering customer value, continuously optimizing for efficiency and impact.
10. Represent engineering in executive meetings, providing strategic updates on progress, challenges, and opportunities.
11. Champion innovation and disruptive thinking while ensuring technical decisions align with the company’s long-term vision.
Qualifications
1. 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or management role within FinTech.
2. Proven track record of leading and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
3. 5+ years of experience owning and developing full end-to-end technology stacks, including Backend, CI/CD, Logging, Monitoring, and Alerting.
4. 3+ years of hands-on experience with Python.
5. Expertise with Google Cloud Platform (or equivalent cloud providers such as AWS or Azure).
6. Strong experience designing customer-facing REST APIs and asynchronous architectures (e.g., queues, pub/sub, lambdas, webhooks).
7. Deep knowledge of relational database modeling, particularly with PostgreSQL or MySQL.
8. Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including DevOps and CI/CD methodologies.
9. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to making critical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
10. Proven experience collaborating with product teams to drive business growth.
11. Strong communication, relationship management, and stakeholder management skills.
12. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
13. Work authorization in the UK.
