The successful post-holder will support the Head of Clinical Education, Medical Education Facilitator and wider Medical Education Faculty in leading on and delivering education to training grade doctors at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The post-holder will deliver both clinical and technical related education and training within their scope of knowledge in a variety of education settings.
The post-holder will collaborate and establish networks with external partners and internal stakeholders to develop effective working relationships to support and influence relevant postgraduate curricula and training programmes.
They will also need to be forward thinking, self-motivated, adaptable and flexible to meet the demands and challenges of ever-evolving educational and clinical environments.
This post will be subject to an enhanced DBS (with barred list for vulnerable adults and children disclosure).

This is both a leadership and clinical education role. You will need to be an experienced healthcare professional to provide high quality clinical education that meets the demands of internal and external stakeholders.
The successful post holder will have experience of educating healthcare professionals and they will be an excellent team player with ability to communicate effectively across teams and build new relationships. They will also be dynamic and innovative to develop and implement their own ideas to continually improve the clinical education service. They will be responsible for:
• Developing, delivering and evaluating relevant clinical education workstreams for doctors in training at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.

Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

KEY DUTIES
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
• To participate in and lead on the educational strategy around clinical skills teaching within the Trust for training grade doctors.
• To determine the clinical skills training and education requirements for doctors in training aligned to curricula within the Trust in conjunction with the Director of Medical Education, Foundation programme directors, Medical Education facilitator and Head of Clinical Education.
• To develop and implement innovative training programmes and set objectives to ensure that the identified needs of learners are met and the requirements of the education providers and other stakeholders are fulfilled.
• To collaborate and communicate effectively with other stakeholders and members of the clinical education team to ensure delivery of relevant aspects of the clinical education teaching portfolio.
• To engage other appropriate health professionals as required to support delivery of relevant training curricula.
• To innovate, develop and improve teaching delivery methods based on emerging theory, technology and techniques.
• To act as a mentor or tutor where appropriate.
• To store, use and maintain any equipment as per department or hospital guidelines.
• To participate in the examination of doctors as needed.
• Requisition and order all required disposables for relevant clinical skills procedures.
• To collaborate with the clinical education administration team to ensure relevant data is collated and input into appropriate databases.
• To communicate and collaborate with the Director of Medical Education, Foundation programme directors, Medical Education facilitator and Head of Clinical Education to identify relevant workforce and capacity needs.
• Work closely with departments across the organisation to negotiate and coordinate support for delivery of relevant training programmes.
• Support existing pastoral pathways and support groups.
• Lead on the development and evaluation of relevant training programmes.
• To network and collaborate with relevant professional groups who are engaged in similar teaching at other sites on a regional, national or international level to enhance and support the development of future training programmes.
• Support the Head of Clinical Education and Medical education Facilitator to prepare relevant business cases to the Trust Board/sub-committees and external funders to support and develop the Trust’s capacity for clinical education.
• To attend meetings on behalf of the Head of Clinical Education and Medical education Facilitator when required.
• To observe the provisions of and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures
• To actively participate in the appraisal process to identify personal development needs
• To attend Trust Statutory and Mandatory training sessions as required and any other training courses relevant to the post.
• To adhere to relevant Code of Practice (eg NMC)
• To maintain relevant professional registration (Eg with the NMC)
• To comply with relevant policies and procedures and health and safety at work legislation.
• The post holder must be flexible in the duties performed and it is expected that similar duties, not specifically listed above, will be carried out as required and may be cross site. Any such variation will be agreed in advance between the post holder and their manager as part of the continuing process of management review and development.
RESEARCH & AUDIT
• To monitor, review and evaluate the impact and effectiveness of relevant training programmes on doctors in training as part of a continuous commitment to the quality improvement of teaching.
• To support the clinical education research lead in identifying priority areas for relevant research and leading on these workstreams.
• To conduct audits, evaluations and research within own area of interest to explore the impact of relevant training curricula on practice.
• To present research findings at relevant platforms and forums and via appropriate media.
• To publish research findings where relevant in appropriate peer reviewed journals to disseminate findings to a wider audience.
LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
