Job Introduction
We require a high-performing business-facing practitioner to join our dynamic sustainable business team. You will work across industries and sectors to find creative solutions to otherwise wasted resources, supporting a low-carbon green economy across Northern Ireland.
Sustainable Business Practitioner Northern Ireland
Contract Type: Permanent – Full / Part Time / Job Share considered
Salary range: £30,000 + benefits (pension, health care & life assurance)
Location: Northern Ireland – Home based with travel across region (monthly meeting in Belfast)
Role: Supporting businesses to adopt the circular economy / sustainable practices

We reach out to businesses who want to be more sustainable and lessen their environmental impact.
We help businesses:
1. Identify opportunities for reducing or re-purposing waste streams
2. With guidance toward best practice in the circular economy and sustainability
3. Purchase more sustainable products through the supply chain
4. Reduce operational costs and overheads
5. Understand jargon related to Carbon Footprinting and Net Zero targets
6. Find local businesses to utilise their resources or supply alternative raw materials
7. Report on Cost, Carbon Reduction, Landfill Diversion, ESG & Sustainability performance
8. Adopt a long-term sustainable business model to survive and thrive in this current climate
Main Responsibilities
1. Confidently meet with businesses face to face at their premises
2. Set up site visits with new business partners
3. Conduct site visits across NI businesses to advise and improve waste management
4. Provide business support on resource efficiency to turn wastes into valuable resources
5. Provide advisory & technical knowledge on compliance, and wider environmental impacts
6. Research and identify industrial symbiosis and circular economy solutions for NI businesses
7. Signpost to carbon reduction & sustainability services and initiatives
8. Use our software system to facilitate and report matches made
9. Use MS Excel to record, report and track monthly and annual targets
10. Attend weekly online meetings and monthly in-person meetings in Belfast office
11. Identify and maintain trusted and open business relationships
12. Attend and facilitate quarterly workshops and issue reports in a timely manner
13. Deliver presentations & attend exhibitions to cultivate new businesses and represent our work
14. Self-manage project work, pipeline, and progress against agreed outcomes
15. Competently use SharePoint & MS applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word & email
The Ideal Candidate will:
1. Have experience of business engagement, support, or customer relations
2. Hold relevant sales, business, engineering, energy, or environmental skills & experience
3. Ideally hold a third level academic qualification (or relevant job role experience)
4. Build knowledge of the circular economy, waste policy and legislation where lacking
5. Be creative in identifying possibilities for materials useful to another organisation
6. Identify entrepreneurs, start-ups, social enterprises’ resource wants and haves
7. Stimulate and support business to innovate and try new markets or alternative materials
8. Identify opportunities for onsite reuse (recovery, repair and restore) where practical
9. Have a passion for helping businesses reduce carbon and costs
10. Be friendly and approachable and be a good networker
11. Have access to transport to visit organisations as and when needed
12. Be well-versed in environmental issues and willing to act as company ambassadors
13. Be willing to undergo training and development and keep abreast of sustainability issues
