We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Lab Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in supporting our Scientists and Study Directors in our Ames team.

The Role
This role entails overseeing the efficient operation and upkeep of our Ames Lab. Your duties will include maintaining cleanliness, restocking supplies, managing inventory, preparing media, and calibrating equipment to facilitate our assays. Furthermore, you will be tasked with handling deliveries, organising test items, and ensuring precise record-keeping and communication among team members. Your meticulous attention to detail and proactive approach will be instrumental in keeping the laboratory well-equipped and compliant, thereby fostering seamless and dependable testing procedures. Your day-to-day tasks will include:
Daily Preparation and Maintenance:
* Clear and replenish waste bins and pipette bins in the labs.
* Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work surfaces, equipment, and storage areas.
* Replenish laboratory supplies and monitor inventory levels.
* Handle and store test items appropriately.
Media and Equipment Oversight:
* Monitor the expiration dates of media and notify Scientists when new batches are required.
* Prepare and aliquot media for testing, ensuring proper sterilisation.
* Perform monthly pipette calibration checks and oversee recalibrations.
Delivery and Inventory Control:
* Receive deliveries promptly, organise items, and inform colleagues accordingly.
* Accurately document and categorise test items.
Communication and Documentation:
* Maintain transparent communication with team members and ensure thorough completion of paperwork.
About you
To join us as a Laboratory Technician in our Ames Team, you will need:
* A minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9-4 including Maths and English
* A-levels including a science subject or BTEC level 3 in Applied Science or equivalent qualification, or relevant lab experience.
* To be able to demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of laboratory science and an enthusiasm to learn new practical skills in an industrial setting
* Good communication skills, and a strong team player
* Excellent attention to detail with accurate written skills
* Good Microsoft office skills, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
We will consider applications from candidates who do not have formal scientific qualifications if you have significant relevant experience from working as a technician in a life science laboratory.
