37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Facilities team as a Grounds Maintenance Operative working within the Estates and Facilities team based at our Rural site.
As Grounds Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for aspects of amenity maintenance, operating the appropriate machines, keeping areas tidy and free from debris/litter, grass cutting, path sweeping, shrub/tree pruning, hedge cutting, and weed spraying.
In addition to your core ground maintenance role, when time allows, you will assist the Facilities Team who oversee a variety of tasks including delivering parcels, security, cleaning and furniture removals, all such work to be undertaken in any of the College’s buildings. Also undertaking minor carpentry and plumbing work, repairs and routine building maintenance, particularly of fittings and fixtures.
Working in a small team, you will need to be able to demonstrate excellent team working skills, be pro-active and able to work on your own initiative. The ability to prioritise tasks and work efficiently with attention to detail are also important skills.
The successful applicant will be able to work effectively as part of a diverse team, as well as having the confidence to work alone. They will have the ability to plan their workload, communicate effectively with colleagues and customers, and take pride in delivering a fantastic service.
The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a similar role. They will be comfortable using a variety of garden machinery, including, but not exclusive to: strimmer’s, hedge cutters, ride-on and pedestrian mowers, chainsaw and MEWPs. An understanding of Health and safety is also key in this role with the ability to carry out physically demanding tasks.
Suffolk Rural is the location of our land-based industry facilities and programmes. The campus is located in the heart of the countryside and benefits from a range of specialist vocational workshops and outdoor facilities, as well as general college buildings.
A driving licence is an essential due to the requirement to occasionally travel between college sites. PA1 and PA6 and chainsaw training certificates desirable, but not essential as full training can be given.
