The Service Delivery team comprises five business functions across Operations encompassing four sites and approx. 350 people across the UK. The teams underwrite new and existing business across our Art & Private Client and Professions & Speciality Commercial product lines for our Direct and Broker customers.
The role
This role forms part of the central underwriting team who are responsible for new and existing business and technical case underwriting referrals. The team specifically focuses on underwriting business via our E-trade platforms, where you will support the E-trade portfolio by identifying trends and recommending improvements to reduce the referrals and declinatures.
You will have a focus on delivering superb service by building strong relationships and providing solutions that meet our customers’ needs. You will be expected to demonstrate a broad skill base across all products, a desire to drive profitable underwriting, and continually develop your own skills.
You’ll be able to make a real difference to the way we underwrite, contribute positively to the business's top and bottom line, and establish a number of working relationships both internally and externally. Being a centralised team, you will work with underwriters across all Hiscox UK regional offices to help grow the E-trade book.
Key Responsibilities:
1. You’ll be underwriting our commercial products in line with our high standards.
2. Working towards set targets each month including profitability, conversion, and productivity.
3. You’ll take a proactive approach to learning and developing your skills in underwriting and sales.
4. Be committed to the underwriting strategies established by underwriting management.
5. Profitable underwriting of eTrade referrals and risks including technical referrals for new business, MTAs, and renewals within the agreed service standard.
6. Drive a two-way appreciation of sales strategy and underwriting strategy with the relevant regional teams by maintaining strong lines of communication.
7. Identify and challenge non-standard underwriting decisions within the Technical Underwriting Guide, with a reasoned referral to a product expert or Underwriting Manager.
Person Specification:
1. Flexible and able to adapt within a fast-changing landscape.
2. Experience in insurance – underwriting, broking, or claims.
3. Able to think analytically and proactively to identify underwriting rules and process improvements to improve the customer experience and drive profitable growth.
4. Excellent telephone manner and inter-personal skills to develop a close rapport with brokers.
5. Able to make sound decisions even when facts are ambiguous or conflicting.
6. Demonstrate efficiency and attention to detail, consistently showing the Hiscox ‘going the extra mile’ dedication and commitment in a fast-growing and demanding area of the business.
7. High energy, positive morale, demonstrated by self-motivation and determination to achieve results.
8. ACII qualification or progression towards qualification (or a willingness to study for this).
