Brief Description
You’ll help keep our nation moving every single day. As a technician, you'll work outdoors in a team, supporting essential maintenance to keep the railway running safely and smoothly for passengers and freight users.
About the role
Our technicians provide the essential link between the team leader and the team’s operatives. For this role, you’ll become a specialist in:
1. Track: You’ll be responsible for maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the track network to keep the railway safe and efficient.
You will be a natural team player, able to lead the team when asked by the team leader. You’ll use your skills to deliver work safely and check that the team has the right competencies to meet our strict safety standards.
Your skills matter
You need to show how your transferable skills meet the following:
1. Leadership: You’re able to lead, motivate, and direct a team for safe and efficient work delivery.
2. Effective communicator: Strong communication skills to deliver clear instructions to the team.
3. Technical skills: Knowledge and experience of inspection, faulting, maintenance, and renewal techniques.
4. Safety: Role model safe behaviors and can arrange safe systems of work.
5. Problem solver: Persistent in finding safe and effective solutions.
6. Willingness to learn: Continuously develop your skills and competencies.
7. Relevant qualification: Ideally hold an NVQ Level 1 or 2 linked to the discipline you are applying for.
Additional Information
Technician roles involve a changing shift pattern including days, nights, and weekends. You will need a driving license (category B) to drive Network Rail vehicles and be within a 60-minute commute of the location.
