The role
As a Principal Electrical Designer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You'll work on cutting-edge projects enhancing the Royal Navy's operational readiness and make visible contributions to the UK's defence capabilities by joining the growing Submarine Support Engineering team, renowned for engineering excellence.
Day-to-day, you’ll be involved in a variety of complex asset projects, focusing on scoping and assessing design requirements. You'll lead a team of Designers to produce high-quality electrical design outputs.
* Compliance: Apply relevant procedures, codes, standards, and tools to engineering activities.
* Task Management: Plan, estimate, allocate, monitor, and control tasks as per project requirements.
* Coordination: Act as the main contact for engineering colleagues and stakeholders to ensure design functionality.
* Design Reviews: Ensure design intent is maintained throughout the lifecycle.
* Team Development: Lead and coach Designers to enhance their technical capabilities.
Essential experience of the Principal Electrical Designer
* Proven experience and understanding of electrical systems within a Marine electrical engineering environment.
* Skilled in reading, producing, and quality assuring engineering drawings using 2D and 3D CAD software.
* Knowledgeable in electrical testing, acceptance techniques, installation requirements, and design change implementation.
* Strong awareness of safety culture and its importance.
* Demonstrated experience in managing a team of technical professionals and delivering design outputs.
Qualifications for the Principal Electrical Designer
* Minimum ONC/HNC or Foundation Degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
