About the Team
The User Voice & Participation (UVP) Team work to empower children and young people to be involved in decision making about their lives and the services that affect them. As part of Surrey County Council, we work in collaboration with frontline teams to improve outcomes for children, young people, and those in their support network.
We are looking for someone to consider our range of digital platforms and identify approaches that prioritise the needs of our key customers – children and young people – while also addressing the needs of other colleagues in services across the Council. In terms of communication, we are looking to reach our internal colleagues (around 20,000 people) as well as external partners who range from private construction companies through to NHS England and Surrey Police.
In this role you'll work closely with the central Communication Team, especially the Senior Communications Manager for Children, Families and Lifelong Learning and the Head of Brand, to gain wider support in communications planning and strategy, while bringing the perspective of children and young people, to the rest of the directorate and the wider organisation.
Shortlisting Criteria
To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:
* People and influencing skills – every contact counts, getting the messages right.
* Strong ability to analyse data and see feedback themes
* Understanding of market research and survey techniques.
* Proven record of increasing web and digital reach across multiple platforms.
* Strong awareness of algorithms and digital trends as well as the ability to simplify the data and insights for team members who might not have this background.
* Ability to remove barriers and resistance by working together collaboratively.
* Ability to coach and/or mentor members of the team and children and young people to improve their skill set and increase the impact of the team's reporting and web and digital content.
* Able to work under pressure and to produce key deliverables on time.
* Experience of content creation, planning, and scheduling.
The team is based in Woking, but we generally work from any Surrey County Council office two days a week, working from home the rest of the week. Applicants do need to be a commutable distance to Woking and Leatherhead. We offer an agile working culture, but our children and young people do want to see us face-to-face so flexibility is needed.
If you would like to have a conversation about the role and/or have any questions, please contact Olivia Davenport – User Voice & Participation Team Manager by email or on MS Teams.
The job advert has a closing date of 06/04/2025 with interviews to take place on 10/04/2025.
