Job summary
NHS Professionals are currently recruiting for an Anatomic Pathology Technician to join the Pathology Department at University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust FT. The role requires the successful candidate to assist in the provision of a comprehensive Mortuary service to the Trust and Southampton City Coroner, carrying out both routine and specialised autopsy services.
As a Mortuary Technician, you will be expected to have sufficient previous experience of working within an NHS mortuary setting, particularly experienced in doing body checks and liaising with funeral directors.
Main duties of the job
On a day-to-day basis you will be supporting the senior mortuary staff in the delivery of the service.
The service operates Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 16:30 and the ideal candidate will be able to work full-time.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
* To receive and register patients who have died from both within the Trust and across the local health economy.
* Entering patient data on to the laboratory computer system.
* To identify and register patients' effects according to existing legal requirements.
* To store the patient according to the patient's condition e.g. infectious state, in accordance with department protocols.
* To facilitate the confirmation of the patient identification.
* Prepare patient for autopsy.
Assist during the autopsy process. This will include the removal of viscera, the display of tissues for teaching purposes, use of specialist techniques when required, tissue and sample taking where appropriate, data collection.
To comply with all Department and Trust policies and procedures relating to organ and tissue retention and ensure that records are correctly maintained.

Essential
* Must have Qualifications/Experience
* Sound experience of undertaking Cat 3 post mortems (dissection and circulator)
* Sound experience of undertaking Peri-natal and Paediatric post mortems
* Diploma or Level 3 / 4 qualifications in Anatomical Pathology Technician
